My take on a list following the Scrying Gem episode.
Great episode that changed how Iām looking at the 4E meta as it forms. The parallels with early 3E are right on, and Brinton makes great points about how the general lack of synergy now brings the focus back to raw stats. Which I think certainly fuels the spamming, alongside the battalion structure and the fact that, since very few of us have any real game experience yet, weāre just tripling or quadrupling (or more) down on perceived value. Subtle list design is always harder but without tabletop experience it also feels pretty foolhardy currently.
The talk about tournaments with Troy brings up how wide the range of engagement is.
KoW has to somehow simultaneously cater to players who donāt want too much catching up to do when they play every few months and players who play so much that they feel the need to spice up tournaments with special characters or monsters.
There a posts about what people think about 4th after dozens of games, while Iāve found time for one!
I recall a List Builder Studio where the advice was something like: play a list 10 times before changing anything and then iterate several times before settling on a list and then play that same list as many times again to get to know it well.
I get maybe a dozen games a year, so I wouldnāt get through that within an edition.
No new models is not quite as rough as it sounds, in my case for this particular year. ![]()
I just moved to new a city, so the idea is to work on what I already have while I figure out how wargames fit into my new life and what Iāll actually play in the foreseeable future.
Also, the things Iād interested in for fantasy; Dwarfs, Undead and Nature, apparently have releases from Mantic coming up. So Iāll bide my time.
