Thank you! Fun discussion about wideranging topics within Kings, many of which we’ve chatted about here on the forums and then tested vs @TastyBagel

PS: kind of late but because it also came up on a different site on the topic of Resin Printing VS Casting

the main (and only) advantage of printing is that it is a decentralized process and one can ignore logistics for the most part
for the different available processes to make models, the lower the initial cost, the higher the running cost and the slower the process, starting with printing up to injection moulding

also people comparing printing at home with printing as a company often forget several things to add up to the costs, because it is not just buying a bottle of resin, but adding the cost of the printer, elektricity, wastewater treatment, renting the building and paying the guy doing it
the small business selling models on various platforms printing at home in the basement as a hobby don’t need to add those extra costs but also cannot handle high numbers of orders

for the casting process, the Masters are printed and used the make moulds which will last ~50 castings
what models go into that mould depend on orders but staying with a Phoenix as example, you have 3 of them on a mould, or 1 and 2 other models depending on what is needed
in addition there is a number of moulds handled at the same time, to have the resin in the first one hardened when the last one is filled (than the models get removed and the time needed is enough to have the models in the last mould hardened when you get there)
~10 moulds at the time, each with 3 Phoenix, you make 30 models in the time a printer gets 1 or 2 done

of course, a guy with a printer can support the demand of a club if this is not done as the core business but as a service
as soon as shipping comes in (which means higher demand) and needing to run a print farm, regular casting is the better option

for it being the future, well the future depends on the demand, everything that needs large quantities is with injection moulding (that 3D printing is seen as an alternative to HIPS is simply because of the prives GW is charging for their plastics, not because it is a viable option for companies) and as long as not everyone has a printer at home and/or wants to do the additional work, it is resin casting for the low quantities with 3D printing being the single model option

Interesting chat, thanks.

I’m afraid that I disagree more and more with Jeremy regarding the direction of KoW.
Looking at other games for what KoW ā€œneedsā€ doesn’t make sense to me, because we’re playing this instead of that for a reason.
Putting players who already like KoW off, to maybe attract new players doesn’t sound like a good direction to me.
