More Footguard.
I’ve got two more regiments of Footguard to do for the time being, together with a couple of redone heroes.
While having a rummage (dangerous thing to do really!), found an unbuilt pair of frostfang plus an old warbases mdf ballista and some random frostgrave bodies for crew. Will kitbash the FF riders for a beast cavalry regiment.
I like this unit. What do we fight for? Food! So if we don’t eat right now, fighting is good for nothing!
Well an army marches on its stomach!
I have to say, I really love how much character you’ve put into the basing. Looks great!

Basing for KoW was one thing that really continues to give me a hoby kick and now with the larger hero bases you can have lots of fun.
So we’ve had a preview of the upcoming new Basilean models to go along with the updated army list in Fracture.
It’s probably fair to say there’s been a bit of slightly negative chat about the release - the style/painting of the new models or the lack of updated plastics for some of the rest of the pretty dated Basilean range.
Now, I’m not a massive fan of the Basilea aesthetic across the whole range and very few of my models for them are from Mantic.
However, one of theirs that I do have is the phoenix, which I think is a fantastic sculpt and a lot of fun to paint.
The new ur-elohi model, although distinctly different in style to the existing elohi ones, does look to have some design aspects which mirror the phoenix - the ‘flames’ coming off the wings and the ‘cloud’ base - although these don’t necessarily get shown off that well in the preview pics (and note the scheme was at Mantic’s direction, not the free choice of the painter).
I’m definitely going to pick one up and paint it up to match the phoenix and my Samacris stand-in (from Carnevale) - so dark red robes, brown style feathers and then blue for the ‘swirling ‘ bits.
Now that the slowgrow has ended it’s back to doing more men. Footguard, Shieldwall, archers and mounted sergeants on the go, along with a piece of Siege artilleryand a winged hero. Currently awaiting another WGA dark age army builder set (for more Shieldwall and archers).
