Release schedule/expansion books

Tolkien comment was more my preference, i.e. if it ain’t Tolkien I don’t mind going a bit different, if it is, then the traditional approach is better for me.

Of course modern goblins are nothing like Tolkien ones so by my own method this doesn’t work how I want it to, but all I really mean is, if they’re orcs, goblins, elves, dwarves, and to an extent halflings (though not called hobbits so I’ll allow some difference), I’d like them fairly generic.

Herd fall just outwith my nonsensical personal preferences for wanting them a bit more generic.

Basically I want it done the way I want it and am bad at describing this! :joy:

I’m in this camp also. I like them, they have gone different than replicate gors and ungors and my herd are gors and bestigors.

Mantic have now entered the phase of making everything their own. Elves and dwarves will be interesting though. Core elves are in need. Dwarf beserkers.

Mantic didnt have capacity to complete the range yet, They havent done any longhorns and they haven’t mentioned hunters of the wild. My gors look a better fit than my bestigors perhaps for longhorns.

Gw race for money releasing old world models takes a big slice of that pie for gw type models (at an eye watering price). Though popped into one warhammer store in uk near me today to fill some time and old world was just 2 books nothing else.

I totally get those wanting a more familiar look but mantic look past that now.

From a simple market point of view, Mantic doesn’t have their own manufacturing or their own sculptuers, they have their rules and their IP.

Everyone can make generic Fantasy models or GW knock offs, and you will find those in plastic or as STL all over the internet.
Making plastic Fauns/Satyrs like WGA or Beastman like every STL seller out there won’t add anything to the market or create a niche to sell.
People will just argue that Satyr STLs look better and WGA plastic being cheaper.

The same way when everything is Grimdark not doing the same is a risk but also a chance (specially when the world around goes dark having a positive and bright fantasy is welcome)

Feraun are not what I expected and the Cat like face with the strange grin that comes with certain cats is unusual and need to get used to if one only knows GW design.
But not bad on itself and I will get the Champions box for sure.

@Free_in_Estacarr From an earlier blog post: “One thing to note is that Grymbrocks take the heavy infantry slot in the army. This is where players with any existing Longhorn units should use them. We wanted to ensure the option to use existing Longhorn units was still in the list. Grymbrocks themselves are on our to-do list to be made as digital miniatures for the Vault.”

Cheers for this, I did read it.

Intrigued to see how the army list comes out.

Just got the book ordered, how what I have now fits the new list. My lycans could be used as brutes but don’t think they fit. Too small to fit the little and large nature.

I’m looking at the fon battalion im missing these units , dependent on a few other of life’s unexpected expenditure this month.

Herd is an interest, alway fond of beastmen, mind I could say that about 10 armies.

This is basically my canned response every time somebody is dunking on the little faun dudes. These feel like a better fit than even more Naughty Man Beasts. I do think they, and most the releases, are going to need better / higher contrast paint jobs to look good … but then again, we’re in the painted miniature wargame hobby, so :person_shrugging:

I don’t like the faun, neither with 2 or 4 feet.

The cat faces are ugly imho.

I would have liked to see classic ones. Not meaning GW style with sharp teeth and a chaos influence. This wouldn’t even fit today (not knowing the background of this army and ‘good’ ‘neutral’ or ‘evil’ armies gone), as they seem not to be brutal bad creatures, thirsty for blood and destruction (like GW Beastmen).

But noble goats and centaurs with a human head or almost human with some goat traits.

Or like the little buddy in Disney’s Hercules.

I didn’t like the style when I saw it back in 2nd edition and I don’t like it now.

Apparently there are plenty of people not liking it.
But if 5 out of 6 Mantic workers like it, it is ready for being released.

Blog post up giving details of a survey - primarily seeking suggestions for new command orders and units - and referencing a campaign starting in August

Well Fracture has started being shipped and in the hands of a select few so far (as are some of the first wave of model releases - Basilea dragon etc).

I’d expect drip fed reveals incoming, along with podcasts of the book reviews. MUP have an FoN army one for release shortly.

Only thing I’ve actually heard is a definite change (not teased elsewhere) is the Halfling Brutal command no longer is only limited to being used by Gastromancers.

The command text was edited. It’s still only Gastomancers.

Some changes highlighted so far (from discord)

Xirkaali Plainstalkers get piercing and Xorxoi gets buffed (as he should). Warrior Pack can come in a horde! Great change as u often saw Spearwardens for core.

Lore update for fellow Brotherhood fans.

For those curious but don’t wanna read, don’t worry the Brotherhood is not destroyed and seem to have a new path set for them.

SPOILERS

-The Bloody Cardinal cuts a path towards Basilea, the Green Lady offers aid but is largely rejected by the Basileans, who don’t trust her. In desperation She turns to one of the leading commanders of the Order of the Green Lady, Dillen Genemer (the protagonist of “Nature’s Knight”)

-Dillen calls upon all knights of the Brotherhood to gather

-Heeding Dillens call The Order of the Brothermark link up with the Order of the Green Lady. For the first time in over a decade the two Orders march as one like the Brotherhood of old.

-The Orders meet the forces of the Cardinal on the road to Elos Passage close to the city Ardar.

-The Orders fight the Abyssal horde for six days and nights, one noteworthy act was the Knights fell a Abyssal Champion, name Krie’thak, and capturing his soul preventing a later respawn.

-On the seventh day both armies are decimated with the Order of the Green Lady losing one in every two knights.

-Realizing that the Orders moral was hanging by a thread Dillen mounts a suicidal charge at the Cardinal retinue. Dillen faces of against the Cardinal and nearly kills him, the Cardinal resorts to the Imps carrying his palanquin swarming Dillen, holding him. The Cardinal hits Dillen with a blow of his hammer that sends Dillen flying, killing him.

-The remaining knights of the Order of the Green Lady are seized by fury and throw themselves on the demons, so intense was their rage they nearly kill the Cardinal, who flees with his much reduced host .

-The battle became known as the Final Redemption of Genemer but was a hollow victory. Order of the Green Lady was nearly destroyed and the Order of the Brothermark are crippled and forced to return to Basilea to recover.

-Carrying Dillens body back to Galahir the Order of the Green Lady is broken by grief and believing they can be no more use to her request permission to leave. During the battle they heard rumours from their brethren in the Brothermark and these kindled something in the Order, an “old longing that they had thought healed”.

-One of the Green Lady’s servants relays the Orders request which, after seeing how broken they are and were likely to leave regardless of her answer, granted their plea.

-A few knight remain in Galahir, devoted fully to the Green Lady, but the majority of the Order of the Green Lady leaves in search of their missing warriors (likely the Roamers, the knights who refused to join either Order and hoped to rebuild.) who were led by Swain the ranger.

-They depart south in search of Swains in the last known place he was heading, The Forsaken Isles.

Personally I am satisfied with this explanation for the Order leaving the Green Lady, they stuck to their Oath, both Orders came together for a time to do their duty and shielded the innocent despite great cost to themselves. I am very curious what they are going to do with them.

There’s no mention of gastromancy in the new text though

As in, I’m not sure that’s clear on reading it, I realise you’ve got the rule right as you wrote it!

Actually it’s obvious if you read the invasion book too. My mistake!

Great job on this book by the way. Really enjoying it.

Sounds like a cool lore update

so what are either Order collections now? Basileans?

Probably dead, with the exception of the odd rule still left in Basilea as upgrades?

Companion update day given as 1st July (from a Mantic FB post).

Bane Chat and Countercharge have dropped pods - one is Fracture overview, the other covers the 3 armies featured.

Pretty much the same as previous , Forces of nature still have access to Order of the Thorn, Nature’s Knights and Knight Champions. Basilleans still have the Order of the Abyssal Hunt .
