At the start of the scenario rules non-scoring units are mentioned. They either have a unit strength of 0 or are described in the scenario.
But there is no unit with US 0. Even individuals and war machines do have at least 1. And I didn’t find a scenario declaring them as non-scoring yet (but haven’t looked at all scenarios in detail so far).
So everything counts for scoring, may it be a cheap gobbo individual or a war machine far away from anything else?
And the latest restrictions for the amount of Loot counters a unit can have is gone too. So even a war machine or a swift and nimble individual (not debating about how useful this is) could have 4 loot counters?
Only champions and Warlords gain the unit strength. There are 2 heroes that it can remember being in the support slot. Steel juggernaut in dwarves and hex caster in abyssal dwarves. The hex caster has the US1 special ability but the steel juggernaut does not. So I think the steel juggernaut might be the only unit with no unit strength currently.
But from a design point of view. I like having some heroes that are not commanders, I wish we would have seen more of them be that way.
The wording on the rules is likely a holdover from a previous version, possibly before they intended on all units having at least US1. There are a bunch of cases where there is wording for a provision that doesn’t exist, such as an Order affecting only Infantry and Heavy Infantry when the Faction’s units don’t include any Heavy Infantry units.
There is so much that has gone into this edition change and I appreciate that it has been a monumental task those involved but it also feels a bit rushed and that they bit off more than they could chew. Most of the issues are in the details that will get sorted out in time but there’s so much polish required that it kinda feels like a beta release at this point.
Overall the rules feel pretty smooth and intuitive, I think they’ve cleaned up a bunch of stuff in clever ways. We’ll see how things go as we get more responses to the bugs and MIA entries etc.
Nothing currently in the rules gives the Steel Juggernaut unit strength. It is not a warlord, champion, and does not have the Unit Strength special ability like the Hex Caster.
Even if no value would be seen as 0 - the exception of units with US0 would be useless. There are so far 3 units out of at least more than 200. This would not justify such a lengthy description.
I would agree that this is former version and they didn’t see this mistake but had something different in mind.
But I wonder why nobody saw this during the test plays.
