Slow Grow Challenge: Abyssal Dwarves #kowslowgrow2026

Very nice - these look excellent :ok_hand:

Oh, and I forgot to mention that I, despite missing the deadline, have begun with the Hellfane and through the speed magic of airbrushing, I made huge progress on a single day

All looking really good. The muted tone of the armor makes the blue and purple really pop.

Are you going to do any white on the hellfane on the glowing part?

Really a fresh take on the ADs’ looks. But very “abyssal” yet. I like it very much. :star_struck:

These will look great en masse. I do like poppy armies.

Glowy mushrooms give me Skyrim nostalgia.

Thanks a lot, the poppy blue was something I’ve always wanted to try, and here we are

Maybe I’ll try to whiten up the center of the chest area, and go on the borders with a little wash, yeah. But I’ll wait until everything else is finished, that thing does take a lot more work than I initially thought…

Soo, after definitely more work than I expected, the Hellfane is done :white_check_mark:

I’m currently working on the next part of the army, which is a lot of infantry. More specific, Immortal Guard and Decimators.

Work goes slowly on the Immortal Guard, mostly because I’m struggling with how I want them to look. After some trying, experimenting and starting over, I decided on a still dark, but slightly more colorful scheme than the Blacksouls had. Here is a pic on how they look currently. There is still a lot of detail missing, but it’s at least coming together in a way that fits the army and in which I’m happy with.

It’s not really showing up on the pic, but I used the Vallejo Shifters for the base color of the armor, which gives a nice effect in displaying their “immortality” in my eyes.

Again I missed the slow grow deadline

The immortal Guard took an extreme amount of time, around 3 or 4 times what I’ve thought it would. This was partly because I got sick the last days and my kids had some daycare problems, which are far from solved. But anyway, today I set the first guards on their bases, and recognized something. Those guys are BIG. And with big, I mean they are sprawling! Their weapons and coats cost so much space, I’m merely able to put more than six on a regiment base. Of course the base decorations take some space too, but even without it it might be one or two more :grimacing:

This being said, I adapt by simply setting up more bases  the original list features only one regiment, with the minis I’ve finished now I’m able to go for a lot more. I’ll do 2-4 troops, and at least 2 more regiments, because I really, REALLY love the models. But enough of the words, here is what is assembled so far (OSL from the mushrooms missing, and the left one has a placeholder for the Bannerman)

I’ve come to the realization that taking good, or at least better pics does take some more effort than I’m willing to invest (at least atm). So I simply show my finished Immortal Guard now as the pics are, hopefully you’ll like em

Really dig these weird models, and the bright color pops add to the weird vibe :blue_heart:

Thanks a lot  I had the concept in mind, but seeing it all come together is really rewarding! Especially with that kind of feedback
