It’s a lot of painting, but I’ve so far knocked out 11 minis and rebased 6 heroes and we’re two weeks in I’m really enjoying putting paint on minis that have sat primed for 10-20 years in some cases! Digging into the backlog has been great, here’s hoping I can keep at it.
^ My brother challenged me to print and paint an army alongside him this year, and we landed on Fleshfeast as a cool, more niche option with loads of sculpt options. But I also really need to make a Mostly Mantic army, hence the Orcs. But also I really want to run Xirkaali because their rules are rad …

Complete my Epic Warpath - thankfully it’s only 2 full factions, Forge Fathers and Nameless. Settled on a scheme for the Forge Fathers, Nameless I’m still pondering.
Xiiirkali - It’s inevitable, so I may as well just give in. Even if it’s just the Matriarch. Probablly my favorite Mantic sculpt to date.
Trident Realms - Always liked this faction. It feels uniquely mantic, but I’ve never pulled the trigger. The Dog/Fish starter has changed this
Nightstalkers & Twilight Kin - These were neglected last year and I’m eager to continue. Also, I’m going to repaint some of the Nightstalkers. I like my scheme, but it looks better at eye level. I’ll leave the Scarecrows as they are just chaff, but some of the bigger gribblies deserve some affection.
Warpath - Under the impression Nameless are getting a release this year, so I’ll see how this unfolds.
There may be additions, but this is the main focus.
I want to get a Salamanders army battle-ready by the end of the year. I reckon I can get 1000pts done at my usual rate of painting (slow), so I’m going to try to push myself for 1500.
The Asterians are also coming along. I’ve gotten the rest assembled and primed (thanks to some concerningly nice weather), along with a few other Sci-Fi things.
I’ve gotten the cyphers painted, but they need basing.
I’m going with a very quick and easy paint scheme for the Asterians (metal drybrushed over black, with a few details n colour) so these shouldn’t take long.

I have a few other Sci-Fi things.
Some work/repair droids and spider-bot swarms at the back there with the strider.
The idea is to have minis for Sci-Fi skirmish games (like Space Station Zero) that includes a Deadzone team (I have 10 painted pathfinders). Then collect Asterians as an army, but only if these actually get on the table.
Made some progress and manage to paint my first Xirkaali model along with a test for Forces of the Abyss and updated basecoat for my Twilight Kin & Nightstalkers
Matriarch. Really enjoyed this one. The resin was a joy to work with with plently of crisp details to work with. Also, I believe Mantic are doing the model and designer a disservice by omitting the detail on the cloak. Forgive the shine. I favour satin varnish on my models.
I’ve had to update the basecoats for my Twilight Kin & Nightstalkers, as the sprays I orignally used are no longer available. Switched to Colourforge who offer brighter pink and blue for the synthwave look
That matriarch looks great! The cloak is quite striking.
That base looks cool and putting nightstalkers and Twilight Kin on the same definitely makes sense.
Making the most of a basing method that you’re familiar with and have the materials for is a graat approach to help getting stuff done.
Picture includes some marrioettes that I painted a while before getting this lot.
If I actually get any games with these then I’ll look into expanding. In the meantime, I’m deciding what to add to the basing for these. Any suggestions?
I’m still going strong with not buying any minis this year, but can’t finish that early.
I’ve started on some 15mm historical, but not the vikings… again.
I’ve been absolutely ploughing through my Firefight forces since the start of the year. Got 80+ forge fathers, the Battle For Cabot starter set minis, and now a Veer-myn strike force done since the start of February. In January I was painting my Deadzone terrain and a city ruins battlezone (the smaller one, not really big one).
Feeling very good about my progress! Lots of slapchop and contrast paints but I am happy to be clearing the backlog - I’ve had those Forge Fathers for about 6 years.
Next up are my Plague (90ish minis) and then a small Matsudan (40ish minis) force.
Painting corsairs - Yeah right, still horrible models!!
Hero rebasing - have done all of my AD ones and about a dozen each halfling & KoM (so loads left!) and not touched the other armies.
Events - nothing yet, but eyeing up a few
New army - not started one, which is good. Have been slowly tracking down weird & wonderful 3rd party stuff that I want to go in my xirkaali army along with the mantic models.

That’s a good amount of progress and the metallic look suits the Asterian models.
For the bases, depends how much time you want to spend. Simple - brown tufts and different coloured rocks for more of a waste land style desert. I was thinking Fallout Mojave or unedited landscapes of Mars. More time - make your own crystal growths out of straight sections of sprue and paint them in a contrasting complimentary colours. Red, pink or green would look good against the silvers and blue.
Again, your output is always an inspiration. And yes, Corsairs can be difficult with regards to motivation. Although, I have found a light wash over a white-ish basecoat can help with all the finiky details they’ve included.
So almost 9 month in i can confidently say that i will most likely finish everything single goal i set.

3D Printer is up and running
I am working on my basileans right now and will definately finish the cathay battalion i build last year (good that i wrote bought and build and not onlyy bought ;D ).
1 - Painted everything I had unbuilt/unpainted for the AD, scrounged around for a few extra units (often by kitbashing fences into weird contraptions!) and only actually bought one new thing for it. Finished with 6700pts of them
2 - Yeah, right! They don’t suit my paint style so remain in the to do pile.
3 - Only one proper event and a couple of friendly games achieved, but things are getting better.
4 - Most of the halfling & KoM/Basilea heroes have been rebased. Not looked at the undead/NA, Trident Realm, NS/TK or the FoN/Elves yet! The TR ones will be a pain given how I did the basing (as will enlarging the depth horrors).
About 2000pts have been added to the KoM and have about 8 regiments worth on the go.
5 - no new army started, although I am planning the basing for the xirkalli and cataloging the weird stuff I’ll use alongside the Mantic models.
1- Not buy any more minis until second half of 2026 at the earliest

2- Paint up my marauders for Epic
Hmmmm, not yet! Probably the run up to Xmas?
3- Attend clash (assuming dates work!) and a couple of other events through the year.
I’m going to clash! Went to an event earlier in the year and going to one on Saturday too.
4- Finish off the (many!) bits and pieces of my Ogres and Goblins
Finished goblins, one troop of beserkers off the ogres too!
5- *Maybe* do a GCPS halflings firefight army! I have it planned, but see item 1! Also need to complete other items first!
I’ve started this! Don’t expect to finish but doing the discord slow grow, so should get a few units done before the end of the year.
6- Help my daughter complete a FoN army
Hmmmm, define complete? She has a usable force at nearly 1500 and we’ve played a couple of games, so I’ll be generous and say I’ve (well she’s) done this!
It’s been having a Sci-Fi and historical year.
I’ve played Halo and Deadzone, and had a blast!
My Deadzone opponent found some Enforcers and Asterians in his pile of potential and gave them to me.
Seeing as I play those and he’s fond of his Plague, Marauders and Forge Fathers.
Which means that I have acquired new minis, but still not bought any minis this year.
I’ve also taken a step back on terrain projects. I have traded stls and FDM for prints of those stls; for the Mantic Industrial Sector terrain set.
No progress on my fantasy terrain or dwarfs, which go hand in hand and will have to wait for next year.
I have painted 10 of the 40 remaining skeletons for my undead army, plus this Revenant King that can potentially stand in for a vampire (looks like they could have dread to me).
The Vikings have been pushed to the back burner (again).
I’m getting a new 15mm Ancient and Medieval group going after moving (to Metro Vancouver), and none of the players who’s joined in so far have minis for that time period. Classical armies look more popular, so I’m fixing up more Successors instead.
