So, just got into 3d printing. Bought myself an Elegoo Mars 4 and rather happy with it and it came with Chitubox, which worked out for me after some trial and error. Anyway, I was wanting a recommendation on a free program to alter STLs, you know, change the bases, that kind of thing (I’m not much of an artist to design my own minis from scratch). Recommendations?

Blender is the go to tool. I’m no expert though, try YouTube tutorials for how to use it!

If you’re fortunate enough to have a Windows machine not on Windows 11, you should still have 3D Builder, a program much simpler than Blender that can brute force edit STLs pretty easily (including fixing holes and errors). Sadly this was removed for 11 and won’t run any longer ![]()
I’ve personally messed with Blender a bit (to create plaques for trophies) but it took forever. Much prefer 3D Builder for slicing bases, splitting sculpts in half, etc.
