4th edition leaks and rumors

This isn’t something that happens naturally because of that release model but is a choice made during the design process.

The potential is there yet it doesn’t happen by accident, or can’t be avoided but is an intentional choice made.

And for now Mantic isn’t a company trying to push sales by screwing up the game

On the other side releasing Army Books for all armies at once would be too much for most people. So this is a good choice also if we get one big model release per book

I assume that when 4th lands there will be rules provided for all factions at launch - something like what the red book currently has, but in updated form.

Even GW did this, when they brought out tenth edition 40k. Everyone knew there were going to be Codexes coming for each army, down the line, some waiting years… But they released indexes for each faction for 10th immediately, so that all the factions could get playing. They even made them free, which was very un-GW.

Then, with the expansion books, maybe a few new units or something reflecting this narrative arc he’s talking about. And the expansion books cover 3-4 factions at a time means it’s tied into a range of model releases. Those plastic placoderms and what have you.

Interesting to me that the line up for the first expansion book is “Army A” (The new faction?), Trident Realms, Halflings and Salamanders.

“Army A” will obviously have to get a lot of models… We know TR is getting placoderms and bearing in mind they’ve been refreshed lately, maybe not much more… Halflings… Do they have much gaps in the range to fill in? If not, maybe that’s why they’re in… Then Salamanders… And older range and I assume does need a bit of a refresh.

It’s a lot of factions to try to get new models out for, twice a year, if they keep the books on schedule. Quite ambitious?

I suppose that even if each book focus on 3-4 armies, there might still be room to amend the other armies where it is desperately necessary. I doubt they will let broken stuff run for years before fixing it.

Absolutely. All GW wants is to sell models so they make sure with their new releases.

Mantic want to sell models but they also want their game to work and grow. In the BRB there is a formula for creating your own titan and I would assume that this is how they create armies. Yes certain combinations in a unit end up being really strong but that’s what the CoK books are for.

“Being weary” is a very long way from “losing my shit”.

If you have mates you can play any edition of whatever game with, then good for you. I don’t see how I would practically find opponents for an old edition of any wargame.

I’ll almost certainly play 4th edition regardless of how they do it. The question is whether it will renew my interest or if I will continue to drift back to historical and maybe look for some games of Frostgrave or Midgard

The new edition will no doubt have updated lists for everything to start with, but probably without too much in the way if background for everything.

The last couple of CoK books have had one or two armies plus tweaks/updates to others. If what Mantic do is produce a book with in-depth background, new units etc there is still scope to provide an update on anything that is needing it?

Having a living rulebook in the form of the Companion and army builder means that things can always be updated (if necessary) in-between times.

Just getting more fresh eyes on the rules would also help spot the minor errors and typos that I’m afraid Mantic is getting a bit if a reputation for.

Thank you, that really eases my mind.

Sounds good, but aren’t fearless units with access to heal a tad bit too good against shooty armies?

One issue on the errors thing was that some of the RC never saw the final version before it went out - just submitted corrections/amendments on the final draft - someone else did it.

It’s also the fact that fresh eyes will spot things that have either been taken as read by the writers or everyone has effectively agreed makes sense.

It can also takes a bunch of pedants and rules lawyers to find holes in anything😉

the whole idea of ‘don’t like the new edition, don’t play it’ just isn’t feasible, and always seems to be the counter to any mention of potential issues when something is changed. You have to play what the community at large is playing, otherwise you end up severely limited in who you can play against, and you definitely cannot play tournaments. IMO it’s a nonsense response that simply isn’t practical.

fortunately i think with KoW we’re treated pretty fairly by Mantic (not like GW, which doesn’t seem to give a shit about the effort hobbyists made and the $$ they’ve spent) not screwing us all over.

Ronnie said those are going to be their first army that is fully available as STL, so a digital refresh only with print on demand service

People playing older editions of games is common in other communities.

The size of the KOW community makes it harder because it’s smaller, yes, but there’s clearly a sizeable group within the community that think alike on this topic….

But anyway it’s not really about a blanket response to all complaints I.e “if you have ANY criticism, just play the old edition”…. It’s more a targeted response to the very vocal crowd (moreso on Fanatics than here, thankfully) who - whenever any possibility of change is mooted - flood the chat with how they don’t want any changes, want to just play 3rd, threaten to leave the KOW community etc. Entirely rational to suggest those guys group up and go do their thing together. I dont think they’ll do it, but sure who knows… 4th could tip them over the edge! Lol

All very interesting.

Only the “more fluid movement “ has me slightly nervous. I wouldn’t want it to be too fluid or too complicated. That said the current rules favoring square bases maybe shows that it could be improved.

Given they are putting heroes on different bases (which I like)I kind of wish that they’d but Heavy Infantry on 100x80 bases.

About shooting not routing units: I immediately thought about units being taking off with a lucky roll in turn 1 or 2. But it will really change the utility of units with a few shots towards the end because they won’t be picking off moderately damaged units.

You can give your characters a bodyguard or a squire. Or 4th will be the edition famous for huge tactical rocks.

I saw another rumour; no more Legion unit sizes.

Not as a standard size, but you can still have them as options by using some characters in some lists.

I have a few legions. I guess I’ll try and saw them up, most likely Always knew they were probably a mistake, but I just wanted to see a sweeping base full of models… A couple of smaller units together never looks quite as uniform.

I just hope I can keep my Zombie legion. It took me some time to build it and I’m quite proud of it.
