4th edition leaks and rumors

yup, Elite Ensnare + Wrangler Spam was a thing, but La’theal is different, I don’t even know if Crones get Elite on their spells, and.. well, Ranged can’t Rout, I doubt the entire concept would work!

But despite that, they need to cost more than a Horde.

Clearly played in different meta as rarely ever saw them in lists - 14 TK players at Clash used 2 between them for example.

Love the concept, dislike the rules - but anything to stop me having to paint more corsairs is a bonus!

Weavers confirmed to be missed in print. They still exist and will be in the errata and companion.

Now that is one thing that does annoy me somewhat… mantic fairly consistently have typos and errors (some larger and some small). Proof reading is hard, I know, but it still bugs me

It seems like they have been running with an insanely tight timeline which makes tough stuff like proofreading even harder. Re: Countercharge’s live stream on Friday it didn’t even sound like they had a hard release date for the end of November because they were still waiting on product to ship.

Sorry y’all, I was out of the country when this review finally dropped. Here’s my TK breakdown:

Fleetwarden still looking like the best thing in the list  My buddy runs 2-3 hordes of them and blenders people, about to get even stickier.

My son plays a lot of corsairs and tbh looks like he will be fine.

Death by Dragons V4 Battle Report - Goblins vs. Ogres

Hopefully someone can put together a pretty good V4 cheat sheet to help us remember we have command orders and shooting needing to devastate to kill units, etc. Otherwise it’s possible I’ll be throwing in even 2nd ed. rules.

While watching this video one question (honestly two, but I can’t remember the second) come to my mind.

You are only allowed to charge /engage with 2 units in the front of an enemy unit.

But what if I have 4 units with wild charge and all of them need at least a 2 (so it’s not guaranteed) to get into contact? May I try to charge with more than 2? What happens if more than 2 would make it?

Choose two who get to make it and the other two get to do a different move order (but not another charge), I believe.

We’ll need to see the exact wording, as I’m not sure you could declare that more than two units (inc thec random WC ones) in a single charge.

In one of the previews it talked about you having to charge if the WC roll was high enough and not being able to charge at all if you fail.

I don’t know but it’s it not that you say “I’ll try a wild charge with unit 1” then roll. If you succeed then you say “also with unit 2”, if you fail that then you can say “ok, they’ll move somewhere else in a mo, I’ll try unit 3” etc.? Maybe not, but it could be a method.

Goonhammer has an post about the magic system.

I’m sure Mantic were tired of trying to keep lightning bolt spam in check but I’m not sure how I feel about magic missiles being subject to every shooting rule, e.g. +1 for not moving -1 for stealth.

And I noticed this comment left there.

Some spells were subject to stealthy anyway, some cover, some nether etc. Lightning Bolt hitting on 3s when some casters can get 8 or 9 dice is potentially unpleasant.

As with everything so far, we need to see the full rule set to get how everything works.

TR spell is interesting, but potentially really situational

Another spell we know about is the Salamanders Smoulder. If any hits are scored it puts a “smoulder” counter on the enemy unit. If that unit does not charge or become engaged by the end of it’s movement phase it takes d6 damage.

Halflings don’t get spells and nothing for the new faction has been dropped, so just the TR and Salamander spells are the one we know about.

As Xirkalii hunt wizards and despise it, there won’t be any magic.

And as halflings just cook and slice it up, I didn’t understand why Xirkalii attacked them on a promo picture.

I think it makes sense that ranged attacks and magic missile stuff would be aligned in rules terms. Its easier to remember if nothing else.

There was EoD art on this weeks newsletter… Does anyone know if it is new art?

That looks really great. Now that is a WAR OF KINGS

But butchers would be hulks. Look at his size. At least 3 times as tall as a twilight elf.

And neither the Goredrake or a Void Lurker are able to shoot or cast a spell.

So who is spitting fire?

What caught my eye was the very prominent bone dragon (wearing a helmet, incidentally - “safety first”). It made me wonder if a Mantic bone dragon model is coming. I’m not sure how excited I would be for that, there are a few proxy alternative around that kind of do the job. What I would actually really like for EOD , out of a refresh, is a plastic enslaved guardians sprue that makes both regular and ranged versions… And maybe a mummy sprue that makes regular mummies and some kind of mummy variant unit.

In the air, breathing fire… If you zoom in, it certainly looks like a goredrake. Don’t know whether, again, the artist just felt what the scene really needed was some aerial fire-breathing.

And I suspect that is just an out of scale butcher fleshripper.
