4th edition leaks and rumors

Don’t want to play Twilight Kin anymore…

My whole army is special and support now, and I doubled units only…

3 Core units, but the wranglers are so expensive.

Half of the army is special now, Skiffs and shooting is just silly (+25 points, and shooting on 5+ instead of 4+ now…).

Impalers CS2 now, but they lost Wild Charge, Attacks and are more expensive now. And Support…

Soul Flayers +20 Points

MindScreech Drain Live 6, Lighting Bolt 6, 160 points, no Radiance of Life

Terror Nerve 18

Goredrake - 10 points, real vicious now

Void Lurker 230 points +1 Attack - Support now?

Navigator gives vicious to 1 unit in 12 inch, - nerve, + 40 points

Navigator on Skiff, 150 points, shoot 4, Vicious to 1 unit in 12 inch again, both Navigators very inspiring

Assassin… looks like it still sucks, like the goblin dude, but I most be wrong because its points increased by 45

Crone: 35 points increase

Butcher hero +1 attack, + 45 points

Lathael got too many rules, but is able to increase lighting bolts by causing damage to a friendly unit. 155 points

Warlords

Void captain +1 atrack, nerve, plusv55 points, Rallying dark kin (mostly ‘normal’ elves)

On boat - 7 attack, nerve 17, 190 points, shoot 4; skiffs become core with him - fly is questionable so far (it’s not mentioned on their list)

Impaler Soulbane, +15 points, still wild charge, Impalers become special

Soulbane on nightmare 205 points, turns Impalers specialist too, still dread

Mikhail many many rules, +40 points, duellist d3 +2,

Don’t know if Voidtouched weavers still exist. I can’t remember they mentioned them.

Listening now. Early in the podcast Voidtouched Weavers are called out as missing and that apparently is the only unit.

So many many models more I can’t use anymore…

And another ‘exception ‘ (wouldn’t call it exception any more) from the ‘rule’ that no model or unit will be gone if there is a (hard plastic) kit…

Don’t tell me I could use them as mutants - I can’t, because special is crowded with all the other miniatures I have. And I don’t want to use original miniatures as count as…

But I’ll probably will have to because I’m kind of fed up with the fact that they erase so much units without compensation. And if I start another army, I will use the models I have, no matter if they fit or not…

Assuming you are also in the U.S., I wonder if it could be terrif related? Once my tiny FLGS didn’t manage to pre-order I pretty quickly placed an order with Mantic because I didn’t want my little group to loose momentum with 4th starting and people not able to get what they wanted.

As they put it - like trying to complete a jigsaw from the middle, the hard way

but why would they go away………. so much for “if it doesn’t have a kit (in HIPS)”, is nothing safe?

I finished 3 troops recently, they haven’t even been played. But I have been, for sure!

and hot damn, a Regiment of Wranglers costs more than a HORDE of Fleetwardens/Ensnarers? How. Why.

It looks like in their calculation that any units with decent speed and shooting will pay through the nose for their shots.

Skiffs pay 30pts for 8 Ra5 shots. Frostclaws pay a whopping 50pts for around the same. Lionsnarl Cav give up their TC2 to get 9 shots which make them equivalent to a 270pt light Cav troop.

Yes, I am. That could be the case, good call.

Weird thing is I haven’t been able to order anything from the U.K. in a couple years now. I’ve tried Ebay and Mantic and there’s always an issue with my card. I ordered from both for several years and never had a problem. My bank says my card has no issue. A friend of mine also in the states has had a similar problem.

The start of a new edition is always a place when armies go into flux. The new batallion setup is more limiting, but that was generally the idea. We had too many “spam armies” (yes, guilty of that myself) and people wanted to see/fight more varied armies. Also, we as players have claimed to want more reasons to field infantry, now here they are!

If you have built a super-elite and/or super one-dimensional army, you need some new units.

And this is from someone who built an all-berserker army. I understand why they wanted to prevent someone taking 5 units of Berserkers and calling it a day!

So, yes it sucks to be forced to build an army a different way, but no more than facing the 12-warmachine Goblin army (no more possible) or the all-Elohi or all-berserker army. (not possible either)

I am not discontent.

Could someone make a quick list of what is in core, specialist, auxiliary, support etc. for TK?

I think my Twilight Kin are pretty regular, and yet, I only have 3 Core options and they’re mostly overpriced. Better finish that Skiff Captain so I can Skiff while I Skiff.

Plus (probable) Core Knights + Julius making Elohi Specialists means that full alpha strike list probably still exists, same as it was! Maybe no more Knight Hordes, but I don’t think that’s the biggest hurdle..

It doesn’t suck to build an army another way - its suck to have many models you can’t field anymore.

I liked the variety there was. You could combine nearly every unit with every other.

Now I always have to decide which Warlord I field, and they often decide which units I’m able to field.

And especially the Skiffs and the Impalers were presented as the go-to units for Twilight Kin. And where present in nearly every box available. Of course many people do have them in greater numbers…

And like I said - the Voidtouched Weavers, made from hard plastic and an official unit so far, released about only 2 years ago, are gone.

That builds trust and increases my willingness to invest more in Mantic…

You’ll never know which unit will be gone with the next book…

Kyle confirmed on the Counter Charge facebook: Weavers are in, and are Core!

Still a little sad about Impalers as well.

That’s good to hear. Invalidating a recent plastic kit would have been weird, whether on not Ronnie had pledged to not do it.

I heard on a podcast with Ronnie (I think) that elves, men and dwarfs will have at least one faction that fits the common fantasy trope. So everyonehas something to relate to.

Hopefully the same goes for orcs and undead.

The undead preview was on direct misfire a week or so ago.

It’s very close to what it’s now, with a focus on trash infantry hordes and heavy hitters like the soul reavers and the barrow wights. The choice of warlord changes the unlocking dynamics, giving options for very elite armies or alternatively hordes of shambling undead.

The list loses very few options, I think just the pharaoh and the mummies, a few special characters and the liche king.
All-in, it goes back to the more traditional “shambling hordes” aka “Vampire counts” feel instead of the generic undead that it was previously. I, for one, am pretty content.

We’re going to see how this turns out.

I think having high nerve infantry with (edit: ensnare) for 200 points a horde isn’t too expensive, especialy seeing what they bring in additional rules (Elite!). I could be the T’kin core infantry turns out to be one of the best out there.

That said, we still haven’t seen all of the new rules yet and I have to play at least a dozen games before I can reliably make such comparisons.

the Voidwalkers (Ensnare, no crush, no Phalanx) are 200 for a Horde, Wranglers are 205 for a Regiment. The Phalanx CS1 Horde is 235.

I feel pretty dumb for assembling my Corsairs as Wranglers because they had the fun keyword mashup mechanics, which don’t exist any more! The points thing just feels like salt in the wound.

I’m not convinced they are a good unit, but possibly going in a slightly different approach and rebasing 2 wrangler troops and a random troop of corsairs into 2 wrangler regiments.

Based on everything so far, not sure many Auxiliary (troop) type units are going to be worth it, whereas these would at least be core!

Apparently there was a US Masters player who got decent mileage out of spamming them in 3rd (possibly with windblast/enthrall combos?) and they might be to blame for the hit!
