4th edition leaks and rumors

Looks like abyssal besefkers get dialled back:

A reduction to Speed 7 seems like a good idea in their case. I wonder what Retaliate! is? Now that there’s only one Nerve value, Fury seems to be gone as well. We have heard you can only waver from shooting - this suggests no wavering in combat, but is Retaliate a new modified version of Fury that does something else?

Also interesting that the previous points were 140/240, now 150/220. Not that different, but the Troop went up in cost, the Regiment went down?

Single nerve value seems fine - subject to exactly how previously fearless units get dealt with compared to non-fearless ones.

Wasn’t it that you could only be wavered, not routed from shooting (unless devastated) - rather than only shooting could cause a unit to be wavered?

Withdrawing allowable with a nerve test is interesting - means fresher units more able/maneuverable.

I dunno. Still too soon for round bases jokes. Haha.

I like the idea of the unit leader saying to himself: ā€œThese men are too shaky for a maneuver. At best we will fight where we stand.ā€

Now will hordes be able to use this rule and take advantage of their higher nerve?

Seem pretty great to me still! From what I’ve heard Sp 7 is basically heavy flyer speed, so they’re still fast moving assault beaters. Basically no other changes to stats apart from that (and cheaper?!*)

*Guessing we’ll do the usual edition reset to 2000 points, then gradually bloat up to a larger number …

No Nimble - but whether that is across the board with how movement is being done or a direct hit on the unit we’ll no doubt find out soon.

Nimble is still a rule. I’m not sure where that source got their ā€œinfoā€ from.

These rule changes are intriguing, can’t wait to try the new edition now.

Nimble is gone from the Berserker profile shown yesterday so some people concluded it must be gone from the game and not just be removed from Berserkers

I think people are inferring too much from the profile. There are multiple aspects of it we don’t understand. And even rules that look familiar could be different in this edition. So I’ll wait for context!

Movement blog is here. Some interesting changes. Sounds good to me, but I let other, more experienced players do the interpretation and evaluation.

Looks promising.

The withdraw from combat stuff looks solid - dying if you fail definitely means fresh units more capable of an orderly retreat, which makes complete sense.

Generally increased maneuverability with extra pivot (I’d presume not on At the Double or when Backing Up?) may mean they can be more flexible when it comes to assigning speed characteristics to units?

Not referencing flyers was probably sensible, as a two line mention would no doubt cause more questions than answers.

I like what I’m hearing there overall, but I do wonder exactly what he means when he talks about additional pivots. I’m hoping we do not see more 20ā€ flying moves with pivots. Would have also like to see another new stat profile commented on in the context of the movement changes. I hope we will get to see some with the combat blogs.

Some additional info from Kyle regarding that combat diagram. I like this very much:

ā€œB cannot charge D. Combats are sticky. They’re engaged with C and stay unless they Withdraw! And if they do they cannot charge something else. A cannot Reform! Into C’s flank as its front facing mid-point would need to be in contact with C after it moved into the flank.ā€

From Kyle regarding charges not needing to take the shortest route.

ā€œThe path you take to make contact is up to you and what you (must or choose to) move around with the pivot(s) you have. The number of pivots on a Charge hasn’t changed from 3rd to 4th.ā€

Just popped over here to post that bit!

The fact that charging doesn’t get the extra pivot mentioned in the article is good.

The changing of the hero based is a tad annoying as I’ve had many of them since 2 edition. But I’m more unhappy that I’ll need to buy two books a year instead of one. That doesn’t seem like a lot but, but that’s more money and space I have to consider. Especially now that I have to put away my 3 edition books…

I’m sure you could get away with not buying every one as long as you have a Companion subscription. But it might be hard to resist getting the full collection.

AND all units are ouit of the way, regardless of success.
