Barkskin and (semi) competitive applications

Barkskin; good actually?

Long story short, I had good success in a friendly 8 player event last weekend playing Varangur Reavers in a single troop, Skirmishing boots and supported by a Barkskin magus. It took quite a bit of support pieces and for the life of me I couldn’t roll more than 2 bark tokens on 3+ when it mattered most (a recurring event), but the combo worked surprisingly well.

Granted, I fielded that mostly because I really, really wanted to. It was great fun and I wanted to see in real action what Barkskin could do. It was really entertaining, but I believe with better rolls here and there my battle group might have realistically won many flanks on their own.

Theory crafting aside, have you guys fielded Barkskin successfully? Its a bit tricky but I could definitely see it being a nuisance with any 2+ def units with regen or other means of heal readily available.

I have seen it used succesfully in a trident realms list targeting naiad ensnarers.

Yeah, it’s pretty much an autotake in Trident Realm given the generally low defence of a lot of their combat units - thulls & depth horrors especially - and even with the 4+ stuff like wyrmriders and the kraken. The fact that the list also has plenty of regen & heal means the Barkskin can really mitigate lots of chip damage.

Other lists with similar attributes (berserkers in NA, Nightstalkers, succubi in FoA) etc) can get the best out of it.
