Basileans in Fracture

Basileans in Fracture are probably one of the best examples of an army that received only a few models and new units, but somehow got the right glow up. I am so excited by it that I immediately purchased a few boxes of Basilean stuff to make a themed army of them (see the article for the list at the end). What does everyone think of Basileans?

They certainly are doing well in the global campaign.

I’ve always been rather tempted by them - iron resolve is SO handy! They seem a good all round army to me. They still need plastic sisters though!

Article is great by the way! A good read.

love that breakdown, my Basileans are on the back burner while I finish my halflings but I’ve been toying with doing them for a while now, mostly since the champions box. I hope Orion and Aestelle get a proper physical release as I’m not a fan of 3d resins, but they’ll do for now I suppose. Who knows Aestelle may even be a champion in a new sisterhood plastic box, dare we dream…

The lack of plastic sprues is the only thing holding Basileans back from being a tent pole army in Kings. People always want to play the regular humans so give them the Sisterhood sprues. Then there’s the fact that there are actually very few angel models on the market. It’s either OOP Stormcast or STLs that don’t quite hit the mark for me. Make some plastic Elohi and we will really be cooking.

I do think Mantic STLs have a print on demand system… But having the models in MasterCraft resin would be much nicer.

I am not sure.

The changes look like to be less glamourous than the other armies, which is why I don’t get drawn to them immediately. Moreover, several of my past MVP’s (Angels, Phoenix) got quite a bit more expensive in 4th, which kinda turns me away from them.

Their main hammers (Palace guard-better done by ogres) and paladins (comparable to the much cheaper KoM knights even if you want to use cavalry) are -I think- better used in other armies.

IMHO, the Basileans remain overpriced human infantry with slightly more staying power. The question remains wether I want more staying power or just more boys.

So all-in, not a great fan. That said, much of this was my reasoning before the update, haven’t give the army much thought after the update. I’ve been building up an ogre army which got even less of an update with the new book, but the army was fresh for me, so that was my personal “new shiny”. That said, ogre hordes are fun.

I think the support pieces for the army are what has really improved. I go into a lot of the commands and how the various heroes can work with them and the units. The real power of the Basileans is the ability to grind and deal damage at the same time. I definitely think you should give Fracture a look, or at least, read my article for the impressions haha!

Good read, well done.

I was more of a Brothermark player than a Basilean one, so slightly disappointed (but not surprised) that all that is left are the 2 [U] horde options - although they are quite fun.

While the new hero models are good (even if I don’t actually think a lot of Orion’s rules) the outdated (and frankly pretty poor) sisters probably impact more people getting into Basilea. Frostgrave have a solid female soldiers set and shieldwolf’s stuff can be good, but outside that there isn’t a huge variety, so do feel Mantic have slightly missed a trick.

Rules tweaks and the commands are solid and there are definitely some fun/viable builds available - even if the fully alpha strike style from 3rd isn’t as easy to get on the table.

As referenced above, I’m also still looking for some decent elohi models

Are Sisterhood just missing models with normal proportions (or is the reason just the sleeves Anyways, thete arms ruin everything)?

I don’t think there is a reason to take the infantry. They are not that impressive at dealing damage and suffer from the stupid changes to Wild Charge.

And with the changes to the Phoenix and how armies are built, they feel like KoM with only few differences.

It was said somewhere many years ago (podcast, article?) that the models were botched by the supplier. They had something wrong in the design and needed to make the arms longer to fit the model. Not able to find a source for it off the top of my head though.
