Basing materials for Epic Warpath?

Hey folks,

So I’m working though my Epic Warpath, but I’m struggling with basing. More the scale of the materials as opposed the ideas. I have several basing options available which work well for 28mm, but are too much for epic miniatures. Searching t’internet and browsing stores still leaves a few questions, so I was wondering what the community uses?

So far, the closest match in scale I have found is Army Painter snow. It’s really fine grains that don’t swamp the models. I’m not against a snow theme, as such, but I have always prefered clumps of snow as opposed to an arctic snowscape.

Please and thank you

Overall the 28mm basing stuff is goof to create “larger” terrain, eg sand that looks good for 28mm can be used for rocks in 10mm, so keep that in mind

for the smaller scale, depending on your region, toy train supply often have stuff for smaller scale (track ballast, grass etc) and animal supply also works great (bird sand)

I made my own mixture of different grain sizes for different scales
the base being always the sand I bring back from a day at the beach (or river) and mix this with different amount of sand of larger grain sizes (28mm gets the coarse sand mixed with 1:1 medium sized one a little beach sand, the 10mm is the beach sand with a little bit of medium size)

Tile grout (powdered form) can work at small scale as fine enough.

Cool, thank you kindly.

I’ll have a closer look at railway scenics. I agree that the 28mm materials will add variety and clutter, just need finer grain for the majority.

Also, never thought of grouting powder. Strange, as I use cheap tubs of pre-mixed filler as texure.

For the ground texture of my 10mm Kings of War I used Liquitex coarse texture gel mixed with paint.
