Counter Charge Podcast

Will there still be a group of people gathering data and considering patches to the game, either in the form of an RC or something less official?

Could they imagine that there will be people with existing, totally legally armies, that will be very angry when they realize they can’t field half their existing miniatures?

And why did they choose this system to balance the armies, instead of another one which wouldn’t punish so many players with already existing armies?

Sad to hear that the RC is being disbanded, they’ve done a good job and shown admirable dedication.
It’s good to hear that Mantic are “growing up” a bit and developing rules in house with paid employees, rather than relying on a external volunteers. While keeping in touch with a group of fans.

The RC has always changed its membership. All I’ve done here is expand the group and taken back control.of it. One existing RC member and a previous one are part of the new group.

Fair enough.
I suppose that anything that appears to be “the end of an era” makes one a little sad.

I’m gald that Mantic is taking the reins.

A good episode, particularly the comments on the Fanatics negative comments, the 5% vs garage gamers and what it means, the likelihood of power creep for basic lists versus enhanced lists… It felt like a cleansing round-up of where we are.

Found the discussion on pointing up units interesting, and reassuring! Hopefully will put some people’s mind at rest. Could it have been released a month ago?

Think in part the army reviews need to have been done first, just to give the points discussion one real context?

Was a good episode and interesting to hear the approach being taken - and with making broad changes across units down the line is required.

What do people think about the fact that units cost the same in whichever army they appear? Seems to miss that last little bit of context where, say, if elves had Drakons and gargoyles to chaff for them they would be even more annoying. Or is it really fair that if orcs have almost no shooting (please ignore the chain lightning) that their melee units don’t come a bit cheaper? Or maybe it’s the orc commands that will super-charge their melee units.

Overall I like now the formula sounds even if it does sound ambitious and I’m guessing it would be easier to do the final tweeking by hand rather than code for every combo of special rules.

I imagine that if you wanted to enthuse people about 4th, you wouldn’t start with a podcast about spreadsheets. Maybe they don’t know their customers…

You are 100% correct. For the last 8 weeks we’ve tackled more universally engaging content covering key rule changes, first impressions, bat reps, army list previews, and a deep dive into the creation of the new faction. With the cooler stuff out of the way we can move into things like the significant change to how units are now costed and projections on where the meta may go which obviously won’t have the same broad appeal.
