We’ll have a lot more 4th edition content coming in the coming weeks. If you have any 4th questions that remain unanswered drop them down below as we’ll have a couple of guests that may be able to answer them.

The real answer is to be patient play some games but at the moment I’m interested in how the Dwarves will play now that effectively everyone has Ordered March and Headstrong might not be nearly as useful. Likewise with the Undead and other fearless units.

Thanks for the episodes!
I agree that the Xirkaali look good and are way more Mongol than the Han Chinese inspired GW stuff.

Thanks for the army construction break down. The “how many battalions” question is interesting and shows how much this can influence how armies play.

As you said, it’s hard to really engage with it until we know what is in which category, though.
I think there are quite a few that could go either way for core or specialist (shieldbreakers, butchers, spitters…).

Yeah, the Core/Specialist split (and any Champions which move stuff) is going to be the biggest single thing when it comes to army building.

Regarding the number of Battalions one of the early mantic blog posts stated:

“The other important thing this section covers, is game size. Three categories are suggested:

Ambush Games, of up to 1000 points. 1 Battalion on a 3x3 or 4x4 table. No Warlords or Titans, and all Auxiliary Units become Core.

Standard Games, of up to 2999 points. 1-2 Battalions on a 6x4 table.

Legendary Games, of 3000 points or more. Any number of Battalions on an 8x4 table or larger. Two Warlords instead of one per Battalion. Great for a massive weekend game!”

One thing we failed to mention in the episode is that there are no limits to the number of Battalions based on game size in the rules they provided us (certainly possible that we have a version that differs from what went to print). But it is a good reminder that Mantic did share a suggestion for the number of Battalions based on the points level. So there may be some event organizers that implement this as a requirement even if it’s not explicitly required by the army construction rules that we have.

It is going to be really interesting to see where we end up points and number of battalions once folks have the rules have been out for a while.

How did Mantic know what the mostly silent “garage gamers” / non competitive gamers might want from 4th?

Ronnie talked about wanting to bring competitors along for 4th.. and they’re not a shy bunch…

But does Mantic know how big the rest of the community is… if so, how? And how do they know what they want?
