Cover from Height 0 Terrain for Height 2 units

The rules for cover state that if the line of view is passing terrain, the target will be in cover.

If the difference between target or unit firing is 2 or less, there will be cover.

Raw this does mean:

A unit of Archers (H2) shoots at infantry (H2) over a pond with H0 and the infantry will be in cover.

Really?

And if the same units shoots at the same target but there is no dedicated terrain and just the surface of the table between them, there is no cover?

It will get even stranger if there’s a fissure with an actual negative height (in reality) between them.

That’s why the difference has to be 3. :upside_down_face:

I don’t understand what you want to say. I know that there is no cover if you shoot at a target amd there is a difference of 3.

But infantry doesn’t have height 3.

And it doesn’t make any sense if the intervening terrain is height 0, but there is still cover. But because it’s a mathematical thing without any mentioning that height 0 is considered to be counted as not there, it’s still just a difference of 2. So you have to follow the same rules.

3-1 = 2

2-0 = 2

Both <3, so there is cover.

Bring back ‘flat’ terrain, which was completely ignored unless you were in it.
