Alright, it’s been a while but I’m finally back at it. As expected, I spent the week after my last post painting for Adepticon (14 bases for Epic Warpath & five miniatures for Firefight) as well as playing practice games of EW & FF and my first game of KoW. I ended up using a friend’s Ogres and had a blast - and Grok is a beast (he charged into the flank of some Palace Guard and 1 shot them).
My intention was to continue KoW hobbying, but my daughter shared her germs with me (she had the flu & pneumonia) and I spent the weekend before Adepticon resting (it was also my birthday). Adepticon was awesome and I plan to go back next year. I only played maybe 5 games of Firefight previously and learned a lot getting my butt kicked by some great players.
However, in Epic Warpath I went 3-0 and finished 2nd w/ my Enforcers. Yay! I beat a plague army w/ a Collassus super heavy round 1, Forge Fathers w/ a Hrungnir Magma Destroyer (which dropped a building on one of my heavy weapons teams the 1st round - ouch) and a GCPS army, also without a super heavy. Three great games with some fun opponents and I scored a Firefight starter box as my prize.
As for my progress, I’m very close to finishing six shooters, with four warriors and two boomers right behind them. I expect to have them completed tomorrow, which will give me 6 shooters, 12 boomers & 12 warriors ready for basing. I plan to do some creative basing and probably only use five models for a regiment, but using the full model count, I calculate I’ll have just over 1k points of painted models.
Next up are 12 Siege Breakers and a Giant I primed up tonight. I’d like to build some Hunters, but I don’t love the Mantic models (they look to be the older style and not updated when the newer sprues were released) and they tend to run $45 for 3 models, which seems expensive. I’ll figure something out.
I had the Ogre champion, standard and some crocodogs printed from the vault and added to the queue.
I like a bit of a gamble now and then and bit on the KoW Mystery Battalion box - purchasing two and receiving double Ratkin. They were supposed to be different, so Mantic kindly sent me an EoD army as well. To the shelves of opportunity they go.
I love a deal, so for $75 I picked up the following at Adepticon: 2 copies of the K47 Intro set, Battletech Essentials, EoD regiment, terrain crate City Accessories & the Hametsu hardback rulebook by Black Site Studios. I’ve been intrigued by K47, but I don’t really need another game system (as we all say).
