I was printing away through the end of December and January, and I started the discord slow grow with a Komodon for january, and working on a regiment of Kaisenor Lancers for February. I have a couple other things in half States, and I’ll need to work on a hero here for March. Probably some fire elementals as well because those will be super quick to paint up.
That big boy looks excellent!
Thanks! I’m really happy with him and was really fast to paint up.
Wow is that a tray of vibrant lizards
! And beautiful komodon, first time I’ve seen the official model with paint ![]()
They get toned down, I just like to start with the very bright base coat when I’m trying to do a reds or yellows. ![]()
Finished a regiment and a troop of Kaisenor Lancers. I painted 8 since the render shows 4 on a troop but when I tried to fit them on, the tails and weapons made it crazy difficult. So 5 to a regiment works out nicely, and I needed a troop for the champions box anyway.
This month I’m going to get a mage priest worked up real quick so I have a legal ambush army. Then I will continue to work on some of the primes that I started and then probably a bunch of fire elementals.
Those lancers look nice. I’m not a huge fan of a lot of the salamander line, but these new models I find a lot more aesthetically pleasing.
Dear Mantic… I don’t want my lizards wearing pirate hats.
First time I see them colored. And they seem to be kind of bulky. I like the yellow dots,/boney scales, gives them a funny look.
The plastic salamanders do look fine, but many others look rather silly.
And the characters remind me of of a mixture of Lizards and GW Blood dragon vampires, due to their fancy helmets sporting bat like wings.
I was going for like a pachycephalosaurus dome. They looked too monotonous with just the green. I think I like it.
I’ve been super happy with everything so far from a design and sculpting standpoint. The pegs and holes in the larger models like the Komodon and Slasher are mis-sized though.
According to new scientific findings (they found hints for several colors in bones) recently, dinosaurs could have been very colorful (and at least partially covered with feathers). But well, we all grew up with dark green, brown, grey, dinosaurs, so too many colors or even patterns look ‘wrong ‘.
But who cares and why should it be dinosaurs and not just reptiles (which sport very colorful skin)? Well, there’s a big mistake considering Salamanders anyway. Real Salamanders are amphibians and no amphibian got scales, but Mantic’s look like reptiles.
Nevertheless - paint them like you want too.
Would be very boring if we all stick to the same scheme and I prefer Abyssals with a different skin tone, but according to the background they should all have red skin.
Got a mage priest done to finish out the initial ambush army.
Went with white to stand out a bit and continued include a pop of blue like the eyes of the Komodon and lancer mounts.
White was a great choice, and the ambush force is just really satisfying. Great work all around!
Had started a unit of Primes in January with extra time I had from only doing the Komodon for the monthly discord slow grow. Since I only did the Mage Priest for March I had time to finish them.
Was able to get 11 on there which feels pretty full.
Continued the blue flame as an accent color, which I think looks pretty good.
Added a little riser/hill in the back to help with models standing each other and make them a little more visible.
That mage priest is spectacular!
