Fingers - they aren’t undercut at all. The mold close perpendicular to them, so they are on the top and bottom, rather than the sides. It isn’t an undercut.
Decimator left arms were actually turned by 90 degrees in the mold so that the shoulders would cast. If you did that with the axe arm in question, it would tear the axe off as it would be embedded in the mold. If you look at how the pointing arm is angled on the sprue vs. how the axe arm is angled on the sprue you’ll see what I mean.
Messy? Absolutely. 3D printing is a skill set like most things and the errors and fiddliness kind of evaporate after you gain proficiency. Takes about 4-5 months of dedicated work but totally achievable. I am past the six month mark now and I don’t really get errors anymore. Been getting great results! Next step is to start designing my own.
Not disputing that… either way, seems like R&D and QC was rushed in order to get these out for release… shame really, I mean you managed to seperate sever arm and shield combos, why do do it with weapons also? Like i’ve said… all the Decimators weapons are pretty much spot on in terms of details… I just don’t understand how hard it must’ve been to cast that arm and weaoib separately, same with some of the other shields that were pre molded to the arm… would’ve solved the detail issue for the parts you can see while looking at the miniature. If I can see the lack of detail at 2ft away with short sighted left eye… then there is a design issue…
Thanks for taking the time to reply to all of this. It’s always hard to reply to a bunch of very pasionate people as a professional supporting the stuff that fuels this passion.
While I do think @IMMORTALELF does have a couple of valid points, I’d like to point out that I’m -on average- very satisfied with Mantic’s stuff. The KoW 3rd edition game is great, the rulebook looks brilliant and is even decently writen this time. I realy love the new models, recently finished even one.
That said, please, really please, don’t go the GW road of super-expensive stuff. While i DO like the new basilean ogres, their price tag is too high. If your new stuff is going to cost € 40 for 3 models, you’re going to lose me as a customer.
But maybe you can help me out why these models are so expensive? There must be a reason why they are so much more expensive than -for instance- Elohi?
I’ve been meaning to look at that price, to see if it can be brought down. It is pretty high, without looking at the costs.
It’ll be because of the resin. Resin is a perfect storm for high prices because:
The molds don’t last long (30 uses for resin, a few hundred for metal, tens of thousands for plastic).
The waste material can’t be reused, like mental or plastic.
Everything is done by hand, with little to no automation. The mold are cut by hand, the resin is mixed and poured and coloured by hand. the models are removed from the molds by hand. What this means is that part of the cost of resin is the time that staff take to produce it.
Comparing to the Elohi (who are plastic) they’d cost so much more to produce which in turn leads to a higher price. I think we can both agree that this is an outlier and not sign of things to come, though. We’ll always try to keep the prices as reasonable as possible.
3 Varanguard are like $100 And you’re complaining about 3 for $40? Atleast my complaint is reasonable and an actual issue… also I think if they adjusted the whole sprue they could actually save plastic and make the overall sprue slimmer in the molds meaning less money spent on getting the molds made… in theory… have the legs/body as a 2 piece item that is glued together, 5 bodies per sprue, 5/6 arm andshield options (seperate) and maybe make larger weapons have a seperate hand and arm… there are means and ways to improve model design while also making a more efficient way to produce the models…
It’s a bit annoying that you still haven’t understood what a lot of people where saying in this forum. Mantic is not a premium miniature company. The Ogre Palace Guard is expensive by Mantic standards. Compared to other companies it’s not. The overall (I get the point with the shoulder, even though it didn’t caught my eye when I first say them) model quality is ok (mediocre sometimes, very nice other times). Compared to other companies it’s not. We all know your opinion, gave you replies and even a staff member tried to explain it to you (please don’t give me the ‘it’s a lazy reason, from a modelling perspective blahblah’, you’ve said that already, multiple times, I don’t know how modelling works and I don’t want to). Still you keep posting the same complaint over and over again. You are disappointed and we all understood. Now give us some rest. I’m not saying you are wrong, but I think it’s time to close this thread. It leads nowhere.
