I am just toying a bit with the army builder for my 2nd battle - this time a full-blown 2,300 point battle.
As the first time (just a small skirmish featuring undead vs goblins) my war machines did quite well, I built a KoM list featuring 4 balistae to capitalise on that. To support these, two troops of crossbowmen and lightning on two heroes.
Other than that, I wanted some speed, hence the two barons, two knight regiments and two troops of light cavalry. Finally, the list features stopping power against fast-moving cavalry in two hordes of spearmen and some killing power in the form of two hordes of halberdiers.
Curious how it will work! Fortunately, the list almost mirrors a 2,300 point list that I took to örb wars two years ago, which shows that the list back then was a decent list already!
My friend and I were taking about KoM lists just yesterday.
Personally, I think Cannons are the way to go for their fire support, and Halbs should make for a very efficient second line. Their damage output seems pretty good for what you pay.
Yeah, cannons are brilliant too. And I do have the models for quite a lot of them, so they will get tested too in the near future.
The halberdiers are quite cheap @160 points for ~6 wounds vs def 5+ or ~8 wounds vs def 4+ (0r 5+ with bane chant). Moreover, it’s still 24 points of nerve to kill, so I’m hoping they will do well. That said, against dedicated combat troops, they melt quickly with their defense of 3+.
I’m also looking forward to fielding them again in troops. 70 points for 2,5 wounds vs def 5+ is very interesting if fielded en-masse. Against shooting, the abilitity to migitate wavers with KoM commands could be very effective. Why not spend 350 points to shield the entire line with 5 troops of these?
KoM need some help softening up the line before your troops hit, so thats where the war machines come in. I think they are better than the ra 6+ bowmen, but time will tell.
