Sorry if its the wrong subcategory, let me know if I need to move it.
I was curious om the 4th edition as I was building an order of the green lady army finally when it was announced. So I played in the companion app and it looks like it got rolled into the Forces of Nature like the Sylvan Kin got rolled into the Elves. Unlike the later, I feel like I cannot make a OotGL themed list in the current ruleset due to the following:
The variety of knights is gone, reduced to just one general knight statblock. There isn’t upgrades on that statblock to represent the previous variety (eg option to add fly or a limited option to get inspiring). The unit size options of knights are also gone.
Knights are locked to a hero (that is fine imo), limited to 2 per battalion and auxillary. According to the companion, core auxillaries don’t count towards battalion unlocking. In other words, 2 knights takes 2 unlocking core units but 3 knights takes 5 units, and 4 takes 6 units.
Only water elementals from OotGL are core, and they are expensive shamblers. Centaurs and Order of the Thorn are specialists. Herd or verdant units need to be taken if you want to get more knights.
I feel like removing auxillary on the knights is essential to allow for an OotGL type army to exist in 4th edition. Ideally with some upgrade options (comparable to how they did the sylvan kin for example). This alone would already make getting 4 regiments of knights much more feasible, requiring 2 other core units instead of 6. Making the unlocking hero [2] instead of [1], increasing the knights unlocked per hero, and/or centuars core would be on my wishlist to make cavalry heavier lists also possible.
What do you guys think? Or am I being a bit silly and should just embrace building a Herd/Verdant army that happens to have some knights ?
Yeah, I guess there is too much overlap with KoM otherwise. It is more workable than FoN but I find myself missing the healing theme of OotGL. Oh well.
A number of the old theme lists have been heavily stripped back (initially) - but would expect them to undergo manticification down the line when the various armies get campaign books.
Order of Redemption (probably best cavalry in the game), Order of Forsaken (Drakons without Elite), Naiad Heartpiecers and cheap human infantry, Pegasus (monstrous chaff for 80 points), Water Elements if you want, (flying) Unicorn, Hero on a winged monster with Reg.
And normal Knights, one unit with the nice Pathfinder option.
This and the devoted which potentially brought cheap healing aura and surge. They also had access to healing items.
For me, the main difference from the other knight factions and why I wanted to play them was their access to healing with a sacred/holy water theme. Also someone posted long ago this awesome water elemental regiment that looked like horses that was inspiring.
Do you play in an environment where your opponents would be fine with you using allies? Appreciate that this might not be an option. I’d play against an allied list if someone wanted to get their army to the table.
