Army finished for Northern Kings GT.
That looks great
“Finished” first 33/60 zombies, exclusing some glazes for bruising and rust (saving for the end as a treat). Also mocked up a test model for my partner’s ratkin.
That’s some really crisp purple! Perfectly eye-catching
You know you can’t give the lord on frostfang wings of the honeymaze? That item is for individuals only
Regiment of rat spears done - just need to varnish the base rim.
I’ll be painting the Nightmare from the ambush box next in a more traditional layered style with no OSL to see how the 2 schemes might work together.
Finished the Night Terror (way too close of a name to Nightmare!) for now, just gotta glue it to the base when it’s dry. It looks… ok next to the infantry imo. I really didn’t want to overdo the OSL on the eyes, but maybe that’s called for? Still, very awesome sculpt and painted up quick!
Finished my additional ogre chariot, that has been commandeered by some Goblins. Just need a banner - any advice on making good banners?
I’ve had moderate success with glueing printer paper around the pole and putting some glue on top and bending it into shape with a pencil (I think I learned it from an old LotR Strategy Battle book but there’s probably more detailed guides out there). Rumor on the internet from talented folks is that aluminum from soda cans also works well (probably better since it won’t be all floppy even after the PVA dries)
Yeah, solid strategy. Depends if you want a pennant/streamer, big square one off a t-bar or a traditional flag type?
Best used to be stuff like toothpaste or tomato puree tubes when they were metal.
paper is fine, foil is better, the best/cheapest foil for it is from metal tubes like tomato puree, if you use paper put enough PVA on it so the paper slides easily back and forth once you fold it over and you can shape it and it will dry like plastic
Dried out wet wipes (a.k.a. baby wipes) have the right texture to look like fabric at 28mm scale.
Thined PVA will dry to make it keep a shape.
I use paper, but for 15mm, so I’m not sure how good it would look on bigger minis.
With high quality images and printing (2D ) it should look good though.
I recall that Billy Capgun used paper to make very nice banners for his dwarfs.
I print or paint a flag design on a long (double the flag plus the thickness of the pole) strip of paper.
I then glue the back/inside and wrap it around the pole, bending it then (before the glue dries) to give it a folded/realistic shape.
Then slide the banner off (if possible), trim the edges and paint them. The white of the paper makes the edge stand out if you don’t.
Then I put some glue at the the top of where the banner goes (to keep it in place) and slide it back on.
I use paper glue (comes in a “stick”, like I used in school to stick notes), but PVA might work better for larger banners (than 2 or 3 cm).
I don’t have a KoW example, but that’s how I did all the banners on these 15mm Landsknechte:
