Rathnards True Dwarfs - The Fists of Golloch

Haha. Whoops, my bad (thought you were UK based).

Yeah, over 13k pts of Nightstalkers. I’ve got a painting blog on here that tracks what I’m painting. I’ve found it really useful for motivation and to be able to see what I’ve done as my memory is shocking sometimes.

What is next to be painted for the army?

Well, top of my list this month has basically been my Ironwatch Rifle Horde, followed by the second half of a Shieldbreaker Horde…

Of course, in a completely unsurprising twist i put the Ironwatch on hold to paint up the cork units i recently built - an Earth Elemental Horde and a “Large Beast” to put a Dwarf Lord on.

I’m currently working on the new Dwarf Lord while i get back to the Ironwatch.

Gosh, had it been 2.5 years since the last update? Well I’m hoping to get more active in the forum, so an update is definitely in order!

So with 4th Ed just a few weeks away, this is my full army…

Total comes to around 12,000pts, including a few Free Dwarf units and a castle I made for them up the back!

My “Elemental” contingent, made almost entirely from cork during a week in which I was stuck in a hotel with little else to do.

Stoneclaws - the most recent unit I’ve painted. I wanted to proxy up a “tech” version to go with my more technological Dwarfs, but I’ve yet to figure out a way to do that with mostly mantic models!

Warmachines, plus a Steel Behemoth in the corner. I’m still using Forge Fathers minis where I can, and in fact some use models from the Forgefathers army I’m building for Firefight.

Earth Elementals, using Firefight Forge Guard.

I’ve recently built & painted a couple of conversion bases so I can use my heroes in 4th Ed. Not nearly enough for all the heroes I have, but probably enough for a standard sized game of KoW.

Berzerkers, using my Thorgarim from Firefight. This is one of a few units I’ve ported over from my Firefight army using conversion trays, but this is the best.

Finally, this is how the army looks once its packed away. Right now it fits into 6x 3.5L boxes, not including the towers (where some cork ironguard sit), the Stoneclaws or the models that normally live in my Firefight army.

Looks great.

For the Mantic Raven ideas, you could use Halfling balloon’s from the Vault as a base since they are more “tech” and then have a forge father rider.

Oh. 2,5 years? That is quite some time  your army looks great and is way bigger than I thought. Very cool

Not a bad idea. I was initially thinking Hammerfist Droptroops from Firefight, but they’re too well armoured to justify as De4 flyers. Ej Grenadiers might be worth looking into as well. Jump packs were what I was thinking of, especially I it makes them easier to transport.

In the meantime, I’ve got a few other projects lined up for the Dwarfs. Specifically …

  • Convert my Berserker Brock Lords to 50mm bases (I’m waiting for 4th before pushing ahead on that),
  • Paint up that second Troop of Stoneclaws (assembled and undercoated… it just needs some paint)
  • Build and paint some Brock Riders (literally the only unit I don’t have in the army!)
  • Build some Ironguard!

I technically already have two units of Ironguard (plus another 5x made from cork, but they’re not “mantic legal”), but most players seem unable to tell them apart from my Ironclad. So that needs to change!

Thus far I’ve been fiddling around with kitbashing a unit from the Abyssal Dwarfs plastics and Steel Legion heads…

I initially had KoW Dwarf heads, but i preferred the Steel Legion ones - they look more menacing and fit in nicely with my other more high-tech units.

Right now they just need some cloaks sculpted onto them, then I’ll paint them up and see how they look next to the rest of the army!
