Slow Grow 2026 Halflings

So I picked up a champions box as my starting place for getting a Halfling Army started, seemed as good a place as any and I really love the character model in this set. Looking forward to painting it.

First stage building.

I kind of wished I had not glued the free lancers together, in hindsight would have been easier to paint the halfling and aralez separately but never mind.

Next stage Test models

So I wanted to go for something different to the green and yellow and found an image with a colour scheme I liked.

So orange and a greeny grey is what I was looking at.

I am really happy with how these have turned out. It is quite a muted scheme but think the orange is a nice subtle pop of colour.

Need to try and get this scheme into some easy steps and then will crack on with the infantry.

Basing

So my thoughts are an autumnal base with leaves and yellow or blue flowers. Will have a go at one once I have done a troop of rifles.

Autumn halflings would be awesome. The colors you have here would really fit.
If you don’t throw some jack-o-lanterns in with your army it will be a crime.

Personally, if I were going autumn I would omit the flowers, and go with deadfall leaves, mud/dark earth textures, and yellowing grass tufts.

That colour scheme really works! I can’t wait to them ranked up.

The colour scheme really pops. Doing an autumn theme would look good. Not sure it has to be nightmare before second breakfast with lots of halloween stuff though. Might distract from the minis if the base is also covered in orange.

lol - well, understand when I say thrown some jack-o-lanterns in there I mean one or two small accents just for interest, I don’t mean it should look like a Halloween party.

So a quick update as have made a bit more progress.

Found a nice quick method for painting the infantry it is the tried and tested base colours, wash then dry brush and highlight. This certainly is good enough for the core troops.

I have also started my first regiment base which will be for my rifles. I want two hordes of these but will do them as regiments for flexibility.

I have managed to find some MDF farm carts and wheelbarrows along with picking up some second hand fences from a model railway sale. I will use these to scatter around the bases. The idea is to have it look like some abandoned fields on the outskirts of their villages. So the fences will be broken and the carts etc may have been left or pulled with them to add cover.

Picked up some leaf punchers to help add some fall colour leaves as well.

Next update will hopefully be the first regiment based.
