Mantic have now jumped on @Kay bandwagon and finally got round to releasing info on their Slow Grow event, which will also lead into a global campaign in the summer.
One of the ways to take part and share stuff is via topics here, so here’s the WiP and completed stuff done since the start of January.
These are some amazing looking units. I love the use of green throughout to tie each unit together (not only in the bases but in the model details too). Any experience with these guys on the tabletop? They read as potentially strong given the right commander, with a bunch of solid but not spectacular unit choices. I really am thinking of running a couple of anvils of chunky orc boys and or dwarfs along with Halfbreeds as an interesting anvil along with some of the bigger boys with defense 6 to be difficult to remove. Their shooting is what jumps out at me as potentially being an area that they would differentiate themselves from similar armies.
The slowgrow army is really just the unpainted chunk of models for this army, which I built towards the end of 2024 and then sidelined for another army.
The basing idea and the green spot colour was partially inspired by this part of Halpi’s Rift, partially wanting to avoid the standard lava trope that often gets used and an inability to paint real fire well! [It’s also why my Basilean phoenix are blue!]
Only managed to give the AD a single game of 4th so far, which ended in a narrow loss to Basilea. Think the list does have plenty of tools, although it is a change to how they played in 3rd. They’ve lost a bit of combat punch as well as cheap chaff, while the list doesn’t have some of the synergies it had before.
With only two commands and a limited range of units on which to use them on (depending on your build), as it stands they slightly lose out in this area compared to some others.
The rest of the slowgrow is mainly blacksouls, slaves and more halfbreeds. Have some fun ideas planned down the line for tunnel runners and death engines.
Thanks for the insights I hope to get more of my force painted and hopefully on the table playing games of 4th. I honestly can’t wait to explode my own slave unit. I think that command really fits the vision I have for the army.
