Looking great @Findol
Legion #2 mock up underway. I’m aiming for 80 zombies between the two legions. There’s a lot going on in this one so I may be closer to 35.
3 units finished so far. A lot of the painting is already done so I don’t feel too bad about getting the rest of the 2300 points done for the end of March.
Originally this 200ish pts was going to be a Vampire on Pegasus but with the buffs to Mhorgoth I figured he’d be a fun addition to my 2300 pt list.
The base model is Goreshade the Cursed from Warmachine with some Gryphon wings to represent his flying ability.
I just realized that I never posted finished pictures of the whole army!
I was very pleased with how it turned out at 2300 pts. The tournament was a blast and got to play against some friends, some nice KoW players that I hadn’t seen in a few years, and met a few others.
Between paint and battle I took 2nd overall (small field) which I was really happy about. Playing this list was very different from my usual cagey Sylvan Kin and it was fun to push everything forward and brawl it out for a change.
To go along with my theme of being Vampiric northern warriors, I’m adding some units so I can use the army as Varangur as well.
I’m currently working on a Frost Giant and a pair of Magus Conclaves.
I figured I’d post a quick tournament recap with some photos here.
I’ll start with my finished standard bearer
Game 1 was my Undead vs EoD in Control. Tony’s 3d printed Samurai Empire of Dust looked super cool on the table.
Unfortunately it was a bad matchup as my hammers out-threated most of his army and packed enough punch to deny his counterattacks. His kitted out mummy regiments just didn’t have the volume of attacks to kill any of my super tough anvils or hammers.
Game 2 saw Undead vs Halflings in Stockpile. Again, the zombie legions backed up by 3 1/2 hammers were really daunting for my opponent and we smashed it up in a really compact part of the board. I was able to repeatedly combo charge his big units like the Heroes of Hoddenberg and take them off without significant reprisals.
I also learned that Dukes on Aralez are H5 and really good! They took off my Soul Reaver infantry regiment with a rear charge that I had thought was blocked off by my H3 Wight horde.
Game 3 was Undead vs Brother Mark in Raze. Paul and I had played eachother a few years earlier but him with Undead vs my new (at the time) Sylvan Kin.
I played this one really wide but kept to my battlegroups.
#1 Rev Cav/Burrowing Worm/Soul Reavers/Standard Bearer
#2 Zombie legions/Goreblight/Wight horde/necromancer
#3 Werewolves/Soul Reaver Cav/Wraith troop/Morgoth
My battlegroups #1, 2 held ground while Mhorgoth’s flank rolled through wiping out units and capturing Raze objectives.
Paul’s dragon and Phoenix jumped into my lines and snagged a token that I had foolishly moved my Wights away from but they paid for the gamble with a surge flank from the Wights that took the dragon.
3-0 to start Day 1 and I was pleasantly surprised having come dead last at my first (and last) event 3 years ago.
Game 4
Undead vs Free Dwarves- Hold the Line
I was nervous going into this game as Thomas has always had my number going back to Warhammer 40k when we were 13 years old. He is an incredibly technical, thoughtful, and meticulous player and I’ve played him probably more than any other person in our 20+ years of wargaming.
My record against him (regardless of the game we’re playing) is not good.
His army is beautifully painted and he went on to claim Best Overall🙂
I spread out my line too wide to try to contest all 3 zones. This allowed his Stoneclaw horde and Lord on Large Beast to stall out my Mhorgoth group and kept them out of most of the game. Eric the Bold with Wings of Honeymaze chased Mhorgoth around all game.
I moved my Zombie legions into his throwing dog killbox and they got shotgunned off the table.
He moved in and cleaned up most of my army while presenting nothing good for to charge.
7-0 Free Dwarves
Game 5 (no pics)
Undead vs Varangur- Pillage
I had played Sam’s Varangur before and wanted to limit his hammers’ options to wipe out my tough (but maybe not tough enough!) units. Placing most of my markers on a secluded 1/3 right flank I felt that I could deploy heavily there and then fight for the center with a reasonable advantage.
My deployment was too compact however and I got all jammed up on myself. The units that Sam left there to stall me did a great job of blocking me in, allowing his Jabberwocks and Mounted Sons to move into my 1/3rd and get busy ripping me to shreds. He happily left some units to claim the other 2/3 of the board and fight off my Burrowing Worm battlegroups and I didn’t have enough scoring units left to even get my 3 markers in my 1/3rd
Varangur 4-2.
Finished the weekend 3-2 which was better than I had hoped with an army that was meant to be a hobby project first and foremost with little respect to competitive tuning.
My very strong Day 1 kept me afloat and allowed me to still finish 2nd battle .
Thanks for the report, congrats on the award! Army looks great, love all the Warmachine buried in there.
