For the past few years we have been surveying the community to see how we, and other Tournament Organisers could make our Kings of War events better for our players and encourage those people who have not been tempted by organised play yet. This year we would like to expand that to include Firefight and the full range of Mantic games that tend to be played at tournaments.
If you can spare us five minutes, please could you take this survey for us?
It is anonymous and we do not collect email addresses.
When you are done, if you could share it with any of your gamer friends, we’d much appreciate it.
Filled in the survey. As someone looking to get into the tournament scene one of the biggest off putting aspects is the size. 2,300 points is a lot of models and having smaller events dotted around help the less experienced get up to speed faster. Even 1,500 events would help a lot with timed games and getting to play with a newer army before you go alll in on 2,300 if it turns out not to be what yourenlooking for
Thats absolutely right! 2,300 is a lot to paint. That’s why we also play beginner game days, last sunday we had an escalating tournament day of 750, 1250 and 1750 points in the Netherlands. Very valueable for new players.
For players building their first army, I usually advice building something with (at least some) large infantry or large cavalry. They might not be the optimal choice (looking at you, trolls), but they hit the table fast. Currently, I’m experimenting with the new abyssals and the new berserkers look promising. (fairly) decent heavy hitters that are 240 points for 5 models!
@Gobling Where are u located on the globe? In may we’re hosting a 2-day event in the Netherlands, one day tournament and one day casual games. If there’s sufficient interest, we could do smaller scale battles that 2nd day. Also, I might have access to one or two spare armies that could be loaned out if someone wants to come but does not have their own army.
Recently element games birmingham did a 4 round ambush event. 750 points each and then round 4 evil and good factions all grouped up and had a big multiplayer game. It sounded really fun to me and inspired me to get painting a suitable list next time one comes around. Had some narrative play going into the final battle and gave a uniqie experience to round the day off.
