What are mounts used for and how to use them

So… on one of my posts I thought about using my dragon model as a mount for a Vanguard Leader. How exactly do mounts work?

Mounts are pieces of equipment that you purchase. They modify the base stats of your model, and don’t behave like a separate entity. There’s three kinds, two of them turn your base size to cav (25mm x 50mm), one, the battle mount, turns your base size to large.
