4th edition leaks and rumors

Yes, normally it’s only one.

It seems like everyone gets Ordered March now, basically. Nimble I guess is only for charges now?

Nimble is an extra pivot on a charge.

Yes, I’m guessing som less imposing individuals and single model units will be support. The strongest wizards Like Morgoth and La’theal (obviously) will be champions or warlords.

Well seems like we will see soon what they may be cooking up based on their facebook post today.

“The Invasion is Coming…Reveals and Pre-Orders from 10th October.”

I’m interested if the translated versions of the rulebooks will be available from the start. Sadly, Mantic wasn’t able to deliver those on time in the past and I think they ‘lost/missed’ quite a few potential player here in Germany. Not my personal problem, but my sons have almost reached ‘KoW age’ and are definetly interested.

Also, will the Companion get localized versions?

Matt said in the MUP interview that they wont have time to make physical versions translated versions from the start. But digital would be the first to follow.

Better than nothing. Hopefully the German version will get a physical book someday. My sons like the game, but are still in elementary/primary school, so their English is pretty rudamentary.

Anyone care to speculate on the book titles?

My guesses are predicated on the idea that we know there is a main faction for each book, and I think the book title is likely to be centred on them. And then we know there are supporting factions in the narrative for each book.

Invasion - Xirkaali Empire as the main faction. An expansionist Empire that operates by using vassals of different races who agree to serve them, post-conquering or post-surrender. We know who are the other factions already.

After that it gets harder.. Trying to fit factions to titles, and guess who goes with who.

Arrogance - Hard to look past the Dwarves as main faction here, the title is very redolent of “Pride of a King”. Is this gonna be where Golloch comes acropper? Rubbing up against Basilea? Who else is involved here.. Forces of Nature?

Death - Could this be not a reference to death of a faction / the world / an empire, but rather just a reference to… Undead .. with EOD perhaps coming into play as well? Hard to see what the final act in this story arc might be, however.

I would be completely guessing on ‘Fracture’, ‘Ruination’ and ‘Alliance’.

I suppose the '“plot threads” that might fit these titles could involve factions like Varangur, in some way, as I believe we know we’re getting official models. That would square with the fact that the Chill storyline is important and will need to be resolved. Could that storyline be Varangur, Northern Alliance, Nightstalkers and Abyssal Dwarves? I mention Abyssal Dwarves because one assumes the “spy” in the Northern Alliance, revealed in Champions, could come into play here.

For the rest… I wonder is an Elves refresh in here, somewhere?

What about orcs, goblins?

KOM mantic models have been mentioned but I don’t get a sense that’s in these books.

Invasion I think is sorted.

I think everyone could read the others differently and the guesses will all be different. Not knowing what factions b,c and d will be in each book.

I’m going with the known stories coming out and the hint from Matt that elves were being looked at for the mantic ip.

Fracture

For me, I read pride of a king and i think due to golloch the golloch empire will fracture from the war of the stone.

Abyssal dwarves, rift forged orcs b and c

Arrogance

I firstly associate with elves but abyssal dwarves and twilight type armies could be in the running. Think abyssal dwarves could be In fracture.

Matt said on counter charge podcast that elves were being looked at for a mantic ip. Don’t think it’s that close to be in fracture and the elves lore wise are fractured kins.

Ruination ratkin, possibly Varangar or abyss storyline

Alliance- kom? Basilia, forces of n , northern alliance voice saying we need to unite to defeat the Ruination.

Death- an undead army but why not step forward Ophidia? With Eod. Unless it’s a rampage of orcs or nightstalkers.

Yeah, I would guess Undead and/or EoD. I hope Undead are in a book earlier on. It’s been a while since Undead players like me got new toys.

As some said on FB, if Morgoth and Undead are not the ‘big bad’ of 4th, then they would be perfect for the big bad of 5th.

But it does seem a while off… Maybe they’ll get SOME love in the meantime.

EOD doesn’t feel like the line needs much love, other than personally I would love to see a plastic Enslaved Guardians kit which has options to make them warriors or archers.

That isn’t very helpful.

We know about Invasion.
Invasion of the new faction vs TR, Halfings and Salamanders.
New release plus the rounding out of the other lines.

Fracture sounds like the invasion going well for Xirkalli and our lads having a hard time getting their act together.
Dwarfs are geographically next in line, and just fought each other, so likely to have a hard time.
It could also be the Abyss or Halpi’s Rift doing something.
Abyssals had a recent release, so get their story done?
Abyssal dwarfs, Free Dwarfs and Ratkin and Goblins are also in the area.

Wild speculation therefore makes: Dwarf release with Abyssal dwarfs, Abyssals and Ratkin getting their bit. Next year.

Arrogance sounds like Basilea not working with others.
Or Elves, 'cause elves are like that.
Could also be the Ophidian god kings or the wicked ones.
Not dwarfs because the timeline should have whatever happens to Golloch in the War of Stone already happened, leaving dwarfs in general in bad shape.

Ruination who’s getting ruined?
My guess is that the Xirkalli run into the bad stuff that doesn’t care who they are.
Nightstalkers, Twilight Kin, Varangur and Orcs.

Alliance the plucky underdogs come together to actually do something.
That’s typically up to the Forces of Nature and Ogres in Pannithor. Maybe Kingdoms of Men.

Death sounds like Morgoth takes advanrage of all this trouble to get going. A new threat brings a new story arc.
One book this year followed by two books a year puts “Death” in 2028, presumably with new Undead mins.

6 books with 3 of 4 factions makes 19-24 factions.
Which sounds like consolidation plus one or two new factions.

We’ll see how many we have at the start of 4th, but that leaves open the possibility of a new Ophidian army at some point.
Logistically, combining that with Undead and/Empire of Dust makes sense. So I’ll speculate that the last book “Death” is the most likely release vehicle.
Putting it in 2028.

from a pure gut feeling (or as we say, from the fingertips) and the info that the main factions gets their plastic release

Fracture being the Dwarfs getting plastics, Arrogance the Elves, Ruination are the Orcs or Varangur, Alliance is for Forces of Nature/Herd and Death being Undead/Ophidia

or, Ruination are Undead/Ophidia and Varangur goe with Death

I still don’t understand the appeal of Ophidia to people who really want to see them. Lore and theme overlaps heavily with EOD, im just not sure why them and not something more unknown like the Tesumo.

For those that want Ophidia… what’s the appeal in your view?

That sounds right to me too @kodos.
Approaching it from which armies are due a release is sensible too.

Currently we have 3 categories of likley pending release:

  • Armies that don’t have minis and would need a big release. Herd, KoM/Rhordia, Ophidia and Xirkalli Empire.
  • Armies that can be made by some new stuff plus repurposing/borrowing minis from other armies. Nature, Varangur and Orcs.
  • Armies with old minis that can use a refresh. Dwarfs, Elves, Undead and Orcs. Riftforged make orcs fit better one up though.
  • Armies with decent ranges that could be rounded out a bit more. Pretty much everything else, to some degree, but nightstalkers, NA, TK, Ogres and Halflings not really.

So, where do Xirkalli, Dwarfs, Elves, Varangur, Nature/Herd and Undead/Ophidia fit in.
Assuming KoM are questionable at best.

Ophidia, if they were to be a release, would be like Varangur, in my view.. In same way as the varangur could use a number of NA units. The Ophidians would presumably use a lot of the same skeleton foot and cav units as EOD ? Then you’d need god priest units and presumably some human inidividuals and elites. I’ve always felt that rather than enslaved guardians it would be cool for the ophidians to have the jinn in their natural state, not enslaved.

Re Rhordia - surely the halfling range is the halfling component of that faction?
