Clash of Kings info/updates

Interesting models! Though I personally prefer more wild and barbaric looking orcs.

Imagining all this being announced in the Chaos Orc Superstore voice

Everything with x2 legs and a partially visible face looks good!

Not a fan of the lightning monster and he-man battle cats. Just doesn’t feel right. Give them a head swap and they would make some decent looking chaos dudes.

Some nice models there. They seem to be more in line with Abyssal Dwarfs than the old Orcs. Much better then the artworks.
Still, I prefer the old ā€˜mordorlike’ Orcs.

I overall like the new army. The models are really nice - maybe a little bright but that’s easily fixed with a darker colour scheme.

I think the comparison to GW’s Stormcast is a little unfair TBH. Really, the only similarities are their heavier armour and vague associations with lightning. And lets be honest - GW don’t have a monopoly on either. In any case, I know which aesthetic I prefer.

Finally, I’m glad to see a lore update to the orcs, which have really suffered from being pretty generic and under-developed stereotypes for all of KoW’s life. Actually, it’s probably what I’m most excited to see out of this new theme list.

There’s more in the release than I expected. Hopefully the more feral/classic orcs and these chaos/up armoured orcs are practically their own separate thing.

@kodos I’d also make the skin a different colour - pale red or purple, something like that

That’s funny. The battle cats (Manticora?) are the models I’d like to pick up from this batch. I don’t play orks (and have no desire to start another army. Still working on these goblins which are my 5th army already)

Depending on size, the Manticora can be valid mounts for honour guard in League or the new Brothermark’s updated order of the abyssal hunt.

In either case, the rider will have to go as the riders are far too bulky (look at the hands) to represent humans. So I’ll have to come up with new riders.

It all depends on scale and whether the legs of the rider are part of the mount model or not.

With the Mantic Resin, legs being part of the mount do not matter as those can be easily removed
Done that with the Vanguard Mercenary Goblin Wiz as I just wanted the Lizard

What’s silly?

I’ve never read any of the AoS lore at all. Neither has Mark Latham who I commissioned to write the background on the Riftforged.

As a company I’d expect Mantic to be aware of what it’s competitors are doing from a market research perspective.

I would prefer that SuperOrcs are elite warband for Vanguard or/and addition of elite troops for regular orcs, chosen or something like that, instead of complete army. But all in all, they look good, although I was expecting bug-thing and chainfist-dude to be on bigger bases. Those guys wont be out of place in Abyssal Dwarf army.

It would be cool if the fluff moves on now and at least some regular orcs get angry for SuperOrcs and they start some kind of civil war. So they denounce Garkan and Oskan and start worshiping something else, like wind or daffodils…

Yes, that exactly right there is silly. That you and the writer never read even a summary of the biggest game in the market. That no one got shown this before release for feedback.

Also please don’t mistake ā€œsillyā€ for ā€œwrongā€, I still think its all pretty darn funny. GW loves its IP law, but it can’t copyright story soooo. Yeah, silly and yet funny.

On the side note, flying manticores. Those guys are looking awesome! They will be great addition for my NormalOrcs :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

Hell, yes! copy anything I said above and add ā€œflyingā€. Love the models!

Like the Lions, but not happy with the wings.
Those look kind of thick and out of place (or better said as they would hinder the rider to do anything)

Those are about as silly and stupid as … mh … Dwarves on Badgers would be! … or Halflings on Trolls … uh  :astonished:

Guess they will fit right in after all. Frankly, I wasn’t so sure about them myself, as I saw the first artworks, but withheld judgement until we got a glimpse at the models.

Certainly not my cup of tea, but I’m sure there will be other people who’ll like them and I think I’d enjoy seeing them fully painted on my opponents side as well.

From all the models except the Cyclops, I think they would look better with PMC rather than base to base as shown in the previews/render

Whoa, unit of manticores! Unexpected, and I have to assume they’ll hit like a brick, especially if they end up with Stormstrike (I haven’t watched the video but am assuming not everything is getting exploding 6’s to hit - or at least hoping so!)

I really dig the battlecats across the board. Manticore are cool monsters I’ve seen almost all my life thanks to DND and its various media ventures, yet I’ve rarely seen them mined for army-scale wargaming, certainly nothing compared to dragons.

Also +1 to painting the Orc skin a different color (I like the red to match cyclopes).

The exploding 6s is limited to a handful of heroes.

Monstrous Infantry with massive hammers ended up with ME4 and CS1, albeit with lots of attacks - but yeah, flying manticores are likely to be a bit of a beatstick, although probably a slightly fragile one?
