That’s much neater than my storage cupboard, which has boxes of different sizes, hobby supplies and material for terrain projects that I will get to eventually.
That’s a nice looking army too.

Commiserations on the match ups
Army does look good tho and I can respect the ‘Varangur But Make It Not-NA’ approach to the list. Fun fact: I could have sworn Fallen were Sp 9, like Lycan / Werewolves / Berserkers, or at least they seemed way faster back in 2E when they were more of a menace ![]()
So it’s been a while since I’ve updated here.
I’ve not been painting. I’ve done some 3d printing…
Printed some goblin stuff for a friend of mine and some Ratkin bits for a potential new 4th edition army.
I’ve printed two of the rat gun platform.
I’ve had a delivery of 40mm bases so will be starting to rebased my infantry heroes for my different KoW armies. Then I’ll need to move onto the 50mm bases for the cav heros. Kind of looking forward to it. Will try and find some nice basing bits to add for that extra points of interest.
My conservative estimate is I’ve got about 100 heroes to rebase across everything, but looking forward to doing mini dioramas with many of them.
I purchased 25 40mm square bases. I’ve undercoated them and sprayed them green. I’ve added magnets to 10 of them today.
I’m not sure exactly how many I’ve got to rebase. Might try and print some basing bits to go on some of the bases to make them a bit more interesting.
If I’m looking at the Winggit and its parts I think, this would be a good alternative for the hurt drakon.
Replace the goblin with a halfling and there is another tinkering.
Reckon that is a good idea. Probably could print a suitable rider from the Vault
So had my last tournament of 3rd edition this weekend gone.
Took the NS out for a spin. Using some unit models I’d not fielded before including a Bloodworm legion since they aren’t a thing for 4th edition (at least not at the start):
So the Nightbringer is my special character Reaper for the event. It was a Christmas themed event and so we had a “Build your own Snowman” using the Monster builder. We had 255pts to spend on it. I made mine so it was fast (sp9), flying, nimble, regen 4+, mindthirst, Pathfinder, def 2 + big shield.
Game 1 vs Ian (Varangar) Protect and Kill
Aim was to kill opponents Snowman, whilst keeping yours alive and get it in to opponents side of the board.
Game was a cagey matchup. We had similar charge ranges, so had to negotiate trading units. Ian went for a near unkillable Snowman build with def 6, regen 4+, 22 nerve (think it was 22, might have been higher).
My butchers broke through the line near his snowman so he counter charged them, and also added the snowman in the flank. Unfortunately he didn’t manage to kill them and as my bloodworms had also cleared a path in front of them, a flank charge into his Snowman saw me one shot it (80 attacks. Hitting on 4s, wounding on 4s due to HoMF; did 20 odd damage so needed anything but snake eyes).
My Snowman moved onto Ian’s side of the board keeping some of the other units worried. Game ended with me killing a good amount of Ian’s army to get the max kill bonus.
Result 7-1 win.
Game 2 vs Justin (Undead) Stockpile
This game was always going to be a struggle. The scenario was perfect for Justin’s grinding undead army. His knight horde was a massive issue for my army to deal with. I deployed poorly, and Justin’s shooting filth monster of a Snowman was devastating.
Justin didn’t make many mistakes either and ended up holding 4 tokens to my 3 by the end of his turn 6. I charged a unit of his holding 2 tokens but was unable to break them. Rolled for turn 7 and he then managed to finish of the bloodworms to grab back the 3 tokens they had claimed.
Result 0-7 loss.
Game 3 vs Rusty (AD) Protect and Raze
So Rusty and I have played a decent number of times before. We even played last game of a previous Reaper event. He is one of, if not my favorite opponent. So I was incredibly happy to have him as my last game of 3rd edition opponent.
Rusty had gone for a defensive shooting Snowman.
Another cagey matchup. Rusty’s war machines were quite destructive first couple of turns. He took out one of the terrors in a single round of shooting. He was doing a decent amount of damage at range. The terrain made it a bit awkward to advance for me. Rusty spread out his army which meant that I could use my quicker speed to get onto his side fast and burn 1 token. The other token on the right flank was well protected and so didn’t managed to get that. I kept the fighting to his half of the board. A triple charge into Rusty’s unit that I double 1’d was poetic. I had the speed to get to the other tokens on my side to claim them at the end of the game.
Result 6-1 win.
This was a great game against an awesome opponent and friend.
So the results came in and in a shocking twist I had managed 3rd place! So a nice send off to this edition.
So after the weekend I decided to make a start on painting the last few units for my Nightstalkers.
So we have the last 4 regiments of doppelgangers, alternative sculpt Dreamhunter, and a Mantic points alternative sculpt Banshee. Comes to 910pts with no upgrades. Will put my painted NS army at around 18.5k in pts (depending on what a few things are fielded as might be more) once completed.
I’ve already got an idea for my 4th edition NS list. I’ll keep a lot of the elements that I’m used to fielding, but incorporate a faster element to it.
Going to try and get all the airbrushing done today. Then I’ll do the regular brush work and the basing.
Added flock to the base and finally finished the 5th of 7 main airbrush steps. My compressor stopped working for 24hrs before I was able to fix it. Ended up working on the bases instead so made good progress with them. They are now ready for the models to be mounted and then I can add the tufts and extra stuff.
Been thinking about basing and how best to rebase my old hero’s. I was going to remove from old base and put on new. Now I’m thinking of clipping the old base so I can stick it on the new base and then just add extra basing material. That way I won’t have wasted the stuff already used. I’m not sure if it’s going to be worth the extra time and effort. Know it’s a good idea for certain models like the reaper fleshrippers as their legs are fragile. I might try it with them to start with and see how we go.
Good to see your NS collection is still going strong. Those Doppelganger sculpts look ace!
These should be the final models for the army…I say that but you just don’t know what 4th edition is going to uncover. ![]()
The teeth clacker swarm is one of my favorite STL files/sculpts.
I’ve done the red (on the characters) and have started the teeth of the doppelgangers. That is a 3 step process: wraithbone, skeleton horde, white (of some description). Got one of the older units of doppelgangers and my old Dreamhunter out of the storage boxes so I can use them as a reference.
After I finish this lot of models I’ll move on to the rebasing exercise.
