Cyberactivity's Twilight Kin: The Shadow Blades

Tale of London Gamers 2026

Welcome one and all to the 2026 Tale of London Gamers challenge!

I decided that if I want to see more hobby posts on I should do something proactively. As such I came up with this challenge for our local gamers. The aim is to keep motivation going and end up with a fully painted army at the end of the year.

Rules:

1. Paint 150pts minimum per month (no artifacts included) for the entire year.

2. Rebasing a unit gives you 20% of the points value of that unit i.e. rebasing a 200pts unit is worth 40pts.

3. You don’t have to stick to the same army, although that is preferable.

So a way of introduction, I asked the Tale of London Gamers to answer the following questions:

1. What is your name and how long have you been playing Kings of War?

2. What is your proudest Kings of War or wargaming achievement?

3. What are your top 3 wargaming related goals for 2026?

Onto the players…

Tony Ringrose

1. Tony bout 3-4 years by my reckoning

2. Was pleased to come 2nd in the lgt ambush tournament a couple years back

3. Paint gobbo army to 2300pts

Finish my English civil war army

Finish my tt combat projects (rumbleslam, drop fleet dropzone)

Stephen Stead

1. 3 years

2. World Champion at Ultra Modern and winning Shroud this year

3a) play more than 2 factions this year with my own armies

3b) recover my ranking positions in the three systems I play after illness has dropped me out of contention in 2025

3c) play more of the game systems I have collected and not or barely touched

Dzhayke Sahmmunsmeeth (Jake)

1. I’ve been playing since summer 2019. I have a 100% win record in second edition, but my competition was probably quite lacking tbf

2. The first time I fielded a fully painted and based army, featuring a lot of minis I’d had since I was 11. I honestly thought I’d never do it.

3. i - Get my orcs properly rebased for KoW to the standard they deserve

ii - Get my hobby room setup at least functional (properly stored armies, painting table, bookshelves nicely stacked, art on the walls)

iii - Finish a full table’s worth of terrain and buildings suitable for KoW

Sebastian Richard Reeves

1. Started with 1st ed., but only got serious with 2nd ed., when the old world blew up.

2. Greatest achievement is when my tower of halflings (inspired by a trip to Barcelona) won best reaper.

3. Goals for 2026: to finish at least one of my KoW armies, to go to at least 1 more event that last year, and finally try and make it to Warfare 2026.

Faizan

1. Never played a game, had some ogres for about 2 years

2. I have never wargamed before in my life.

3. To have war gamed, but also built up a fully painted ogre army- and perhaps start another army when I get a feel for the game OR use my old world figures as proxy for a kow army

Grant Alexander (me)

1. Started playing 2nd edition, coming over from WFFB at the conclusion of the End Times where they destroyed the Old World.

2. Non-KoW related would be winning best painted army at my first and only Dropzone Commander tournament. KoW related would be qualifying twice and competing once in the UK KoW Masters event.

3. Attend at least 4 events, paint enough models of a non-Nightstalker army to be legally fieldable 2.3k pts army, rebase all required painted heroes to new base size (at least all my NS ones).

Lastly…

Robert James

1. Robert the Elf Slayer has results on Masters all the way back to the start in 2018.

2. Making Masters every year in 3rd Ed despite being rubbish at the game.

3. Complete Ogres, Nightstalkers and KoM (Bretonnians). Also to beat Max Dell as often as possible, so much so that originally it was all 3 of his goals…

I left Rob til last as he has a special challenge/bet with me for 2026.

**The Bet**

Rob bet me that he could paint 3 legal 2300pt armies in 2026. Models can only be used in one army. So he has to paint 6900pts during the year to win the bet.

Now you might not know Rob but he has what I’d describe as a slower than average painting pace.

**The forfeit**

If Rob manages to complete his mission I have to get a T-shirt printed that says “Robert is my Hobby Hero” on it and where it to every tournament I attend in 2027.

If he fails, I’ll be needing some inventive ideas for his punishment.

I’ll be posting updates monthly on Fanatics. Please keep the replies encouraging. If you want to “play along” please feel free to do so on the comments on the monthly posts! I’d love to see the progre

Much love to all, and to all the ToLG good luck!

So I’ve finished rebasing my horror. That makes my 4th edition version of my butcher list legal:

Today I rewrote my 3rd edition Shroud list for 4th edition. The bloodworm legion goes and in their place we take 2 scarecrow hordes. Same switches as the above for the Mindscreech we get a horror and for Shakira I take Void Talon.

Going to try and get a game in soon to practice.

Tale of London Gamers - January 2026 Entries

A decent amount of hobby has been done by the challengers in the Tale of London Gamers in the first month.

Some notes…We are allowing half points for a hero mount and base being painted, same goes for a cav unit where the mounts have been painted and based. When the riders are done the other half of the unit points will be obtained. Hero mounts painted by themselves (and not based) will only be worth the upgrade cost.

Just a reminder that a base is worth 20% of the unit cost, so rebasing a 200pt unit is worth 40pts. Also, spellcasters that come with no spells are costed at the base cost + cheapest spell available (as that would be the cheapest way you would ever field them).

“UFF” is Units Fully Finished, as in fully painted and based as part of ToLG2026. Ideally over the year we want at least 12 units to have been painted up and based from scratch. Adding in a few units that are rebased and we should end up with some decent sized armies at the end.

I’ll be tracking the points each month with a running total, and also a UFF total vs how many units we were aiming for so far. That way you can see if a player is on track or not.

So a quick summary for the month from the players…

Tony Ringrose

Xirkhali matriarch fully painted and based

Rocklobber painted (unbased)

210+(75-20%) = 270pts = UFF 1/1

Sebastian Richard Reeves

2x Druids rebased

Feast Master painted and based

17.5+17.5+185 = 220pts = UFF 1/1

Faizan Shaikh

2x Ogre Warrior Regiment painted

1x Ogre Shooter Regiment painted

All unbased

185+185+215 = 585-20% = 468pts = UFF 0/1

Dzhayke Sahmmunsmeeth (Jake)

2x rebased regiments of greatax

Rebased storm caller

New mount and base for Thonaar

(36x2)+26+80 = 158pts = UFF 0/1

Robert James

No models painted or based or even rebased…

… He did play in the UK KoW Masters though.

Hopefully back on track before the end of February. Otherwise he may struggle to get all 6,900pts done by the end of the year.

0pts = UFF 0/1

Stephen Stead

8x Ice Niaad troops painted and based

95x8 = 760pts = UFF 8/1

Grant Alexander

Stormwind regiment mounts painted and based (no riders)

Horror rebased

2x hero mounts (bsb and prince) just painted

110+15+15+20 = 165pts = UFF 0/1

So Stephen is way out in front with a fantastic start. Faizan isn’t too far behind.

I’m attaching the pictures of the efforts. I’ve added the players name to them. I’m sure you’ll agree the efforts look great and it has inspired a lot of hobby to be done.

Feel free to play along with us. Let’s keep it positive and encouraging.

In Feb I’ve already managed to rebase 3 units, and hopefully will finish that cav unit. I’m not sure if I want to work on the 2 heroes afterwards or paint up something else from the Elf or FoN list. Ideas in the comments below please

Till Next Month…

Ha - I saw this post on facebook earlier today! The Night starlkers are looking great as always.
I’ve not yet started the process of rebasing all my heroes. Instead I’ve made three 40mm bases with a slot to fit the 20mm heroes into. A bit lazy, but it will do the job for most games!

I like the ogres. This pinkish skin suits them well.

True. I was going to make a few base converters. But every time I go to do it I just end up rebasing something. Lol.

Are you enjoying the series? What army would you paint up if you were taking part?

So it’s been a busy couple of weeks.

I rebased skink priest model, and some baby dragons to be 2 troops of critters for my half of a doubles tournament list. Decided to take FoN for the first time in order to finally field the water elemental hordes (with the air elementals and greater air elemental).

More on that later…

After I took apart 2 of my drakon troops for the baby dragons, I was thinking about what to do with the spare models. Decided to build 2 regiments of drakons/scorchwings (as all the drakons are currently as troops). For that I thought I’d add a model in the middle of the unit to be a unit of 5.

I found some cool Yu-Gi-Oh dragon STL files, and decided to print 3 of the blue eyes white dragons out. 2 would join the units. The other would go to my cousin as a birthday gift as he is a massive fan of the series and card game.

Here are the 3 painted:

Here is the one based for the gift:

I gave my cousin the gift about after the tournament. He loved it. I was so relieved as he is only the 2nd person I’ve ever painted something for so I’m glad he liked it.

Edit: This is the card it’s based on:

Can’t say I’ve ever been a fan of Yugioh but I have to admit - the dragon looks ace. Especially for a white colour scheme!

So a quick recap of the doubles event.

Hosted at The Pit Gaming store, this was advertised as a fun 3 game event. The armies would be 1150pts per player so made up a 2,300pts army.

We had a hobby award for best army and best unit available so I went with an army that I’ve not used before, but included some of my favorite painted units (my doubles partner had enough experience with them to make up for my lack of knowledge).

I went for Forces of Nature and Ed went for Trident Realms.

You got 16 for a win, 8 for a draw, 4 for a loss.

Then you worked out your kills and could get up to +4 if you tabled your opponent.

Game 1 vs Tony & Tony (AD and Goblins)

Tony was playing solo. Ed and I basically pushed the left flank and held back on the right side until we were comfortable charging (we out ranged a lot of that flanks units). Turn 3 we charged in. Not much survived the turn. By the end of the following turn we were cleaning up the rest of the army for minimal loses our side (825pts).

Result Win (20-5)

Game 2 vs Ryan & Mathis (Ogres and Twilight Kin)

This looked like a great pairing. Both lists were really strong and worked nicely together. Mathis TK were a personal favourite of mine. I’ve played Mathis at LGT event previously so know he is a decent player.

Ed and I had a good plan going into the game and we executed it well. We managed to only lose 175pts and killed the 2180pts of the enemy.

Result Win (19-4)

Game 3 vs Mo & Jordan (Nightstalkers and Trident Realms)

Onto the last game where we faced our opponents who were on a draw and a win. So we were out in front and a draw would likely be enough to hold onto the top spot. Together Mo & Jordan’s list had a lot of pull, push and surge shenanigans to it. This was a tricky battle as we had very similar movement rates and it was a real tactical battle working through potential piece trading.

They went for some enthrall and surge shenanigans to get the coral giant into the greater air elemental. Unfortunately they came up a little short. Some of the combats were a bit swingy. They had a lucky break when I double 1’d the coral giant who was on 21 wounds and then IR3 down to 18 (and not even devastated). This resulted in more damage to the attacking unit.

We managed secure enough of the scenario points to win the game, and only lost 750pts in the end but only killed 1565pts of the enemy. Combination of healing and Regen saved a lot of the units on our side.

Result Win (18-5)

So the results came in and we had won the event!

Ed managed to win best army.

I managed to win best unit for the water elementals.

It was a really fun day and a great intro to the new edition. Doubles is great to ease new players into the game so I highly recommend it.

Tale of London Gamers 2026 - February

#ToLG2026

So the second month of the challenge. Some great work again. Unfortunately we had two players this month with no entry. Hopefully next month will see them back on track.

@⁨Tony Ringrose

Troll bruiser including base

160pts (+1UFF)

@⁨Seb Reeves

Troop of forest trolls including base

140pts (+1UFF)

@⁨Faizan Shaikh

Nothing extra painted up or rebased this month.

0pts

@⁨Jake Salmonsmith

2 troops and 1 reg of RFO legionaries, 2 troops of reborn, 1 reg of trolls, all rebased

(105 x2)+ 135 + (135 x2) + 190 = 805

20% of 805 = 161pts

@⁨Robert James

Nothing painted up or rebased this month.

0pts

@Grant Alexander

3 drakons painted, not based (counting as 16% of scorchwing regiment each)

2 forest critters and a glade walker druid rebased

(38 x3) + 56 = 170pts

@⁨Stephen Stead

2 troops of tundra wolves including base

2 x 110 = 220pts (+2UFF)

So Stephen has extended his lead at the top with another 2 units finished. Can he keep his lead or will we see a surge of hobby from the other players to make up the ground? I know Stephen is busy this month so it’s a perfect opportunity to play catch-up.

Tune in next month to find out!

Great effort all around. I’m especially loving the classic Orcs from Jake.

Faizan and Robert need to step up their game!

Man, I was going to say the same thing yesterday and forgot - I really like those orcs. They look like chaos and mayhem.

Yeah the Orcs are the new hotness so we’ve seen a lot of people starting to field them.

Whilst it is tempting, I’ve always preferred the goblins over the Orcs.

I’m with you there - Goblins are so much cooler than Orcs.

Tale of London Gamers 2026 - March entries

It was a busy month for some. Some great hobby done and some new units added to armies!

Here’s the breakdown:

@⁨Tony Ringrose

Goblin King on chariot 145pts

Regiment of fleabag riders 160pts

145 + 160 = 305pts (+2UFF)

@Grant Alexander

76pts worth if going by elf list. Mounted Lord, mounted mage with cheapest spell, mounted standard. All rebased.

(175 + 110 + 95)*0.2 = 76pts

110pts for finishing the unit (half points claimed January for having the coldones done and based with no riders).

80pts for finishing the standard bearer (15pts already claimed same month as the coldones for having the mount done but no base).

76 + 110 + 80 = 266pts (+2UFF)

@⁨Seb Reeves

Rebased 2 x regiments of braves

90 x 2 = 180 x 20% = 36pts

@⁨Faizan Shaikh

No entry

@⁨Jake Salmonsmith

Regiment of reborn 165pts (+1UFF)

@⁨Robert James

No entry

@⁨Stephen Stead

Regiment of hearthguard 230pts (+1UFF)
