Love all those units! So nice to see so much progress from people in the community.
Thank you. I’m glad it seems to be encouraging some people to get some hobby done.
I’m a bit stuck myself what to paint next as I’ve technically finished my entry for this month (basing the Impalers and a Soulbane):
So technically I can take it easy for the rest of the month but would like to have something on the go to work on.
(245x3)*0.2 + (165x0.2) = 180pts (+3UFF)
Tale of London Gamers 2026 - June entries
Some great entries this month. Also did a check in since we are half way through the year.
Tony Ringrose
2 sharpsticks and goblin character
= 180 + 165 = 345 (+3UFF)
Stephen Stead
Phoenix
= 180 (+1UFF)
Dzhayke Sahmmunsmeeth
Troop gore riders and rebased riftforger
=158 (+1UFF)
Grant Alexander
Based the 3 Impaler regiments from last month, and a Soulbane + painted a elf special character
=180 + 165 = 345 (+4UFF)
Checked on the points painted and currently Tony is in 1st place, I’m in 2nd place, and Stephen is just behind in 3rd.
Nice job! I love the special character
So haven’t done any more hobby this month as I’m undecided what to paint next.
This past Saturday I attended a KoW tournament that I co-organised with Roll out the Barrels organiser Seb and my fellow Shroud of the Reaper co-TO Mark. The combination of the two teams was lovingly called “Roll out the Reaper” and the event was called “Cask in the Sun”.
It was an escalation event. 3 games over 1 day. Army lists were 2 battalion system. 1 battalion had to be 1k pts, and the other 1300pts. Game 1 used the 1k pts battalion, game 2 used the 1300pts, and game 3 used the full 2.3k pts.
The army I took. The chariot was the ale cart, a special character used only in game 2.
Game 1 Compass Points vs Seb (Halflings) using Battalion 2
Co-organisers faced off . I’ve played Seb a few times before. He was running a bit late, as was one of the players. We nearly amended the draw, but decided against it and we had a game.
I went for a bit of a change and took a lot of windblast in the list. The doppelgangers at this points level was also a risk. The windblast was good fun especially with units being kept at bay or blowing them back or sideways onto difficult terrain.
Seb ended up taking the fight to me with his iron beast (he had 2 in the full list) and the troll gunner hero dude. Difficult to take down the hero with the doppelgangers. Had to use the mindscreech to drain life and heal up the doppelgangers. Iron beast got flank charged but man that thing is tough. I kept the doppelgangers in the fight long enough to kill it.
Luck broke my way and I managed to kill all of Sebs units and claim all 4 objectives whist somehow keeping my units alive (drain life helped a lot).
Game 2 Invade+ vs Matis (Twilight Kin) with Battalion 1
With zero shooting in his list, and loads of attacks I’m always at a disadvantage playing vs Matis. He’s also a really decent player and our games are super close.
The main key to this game was getting the cart into opponents deployment zone as that was worth 2pts. Keeping it alive was just worth the 1pt. I ran the cart full speed down the right flank and hid it behind impassable terrain (cart in his deployment zone, terrain kinda half in/half out). That’s where it stayed all game.
Matis killed like 50% more of my army than I did of his. I got lucky with the mutants who didn’t quite manage to one shot the butchers. It was a close game but I won by a single scenario point due to my cart being in his deployment zone .
Game 3 Seek and Destroy vs Ryan (Ogres) full list
Last game saw me take on an Ogre list that had be curb stomping people. New Fracture update was allowed and was great to see the interesting builds and new flavour the list had.
This was largely a stand off. We both grabbed a couple of tokens. Ryan had to drop one to charge his chariots into the fiends that had been holding the left flank with little support. I kept wind blasting units all over the place, with personal favorites being doing it constantly back through a wood once all the way out the back to an unlucky ogre warrior regiment (only way to keep them out of the fight on the left flank). Ryan tried to block with a hero but couldn’t be in more than 1 place. Although he out ranged me he wanted to keep out of my charge range so I was happy to wait it out as he would have to come to me (he had 1 token on the seigebreakers, and I was holding 4 tokens by turn 5). Turn 5 I charged the soulflayers in the way to block 2 units from moving and cover the doppelgangers getting token 5. This basically meant he only had a turn or 2 tops to get some tokens.
We were both rushing as clocks were low on time and some confusion happened. He charged one of my units carrying a token, killed it and claimed the token. He ended up keeping it. I then charged that unit, and then rolled nerve. I thought I killed it and so did Ryan then he rechecked the stats after he removed it and said that he didn’t think I did…we were both unsure and I don’t remember what I rolled so I rerolled and it was enough. I then turned the unit to look at the hindered seigebreakers but when I measured they were a mm outside 10”. They would have been in range had I not killed that unit (it was worth the risk either way as it would have drawn the seigebreakers in range of a few of my units to counter charge). When Ryan measured it was 10” exactly. Even if I hadn’t killed the unit, I’d have won 4-2 rather than 5-1 so in the end it didn’t matter that much. We both ended up out of time in our respective last turn. I let Ryan finish rolling his combats and he did the same in kind and that was the game.
So 3 games. 3 wins. The result was Best General! 1st place. I got runner up for best army and best model.
It was a fun day and because we didn’t quite have the numbers it was an unranked event so was nice and relaxed.
Seb presenting me with me 1st place “trophy”:
Nice looking army (unsurprisingly!) and sounds a fun way to do a three game event.
Thank you.
It was an interesting list building exercise. Previously Seb had done 2 different factions who then ally together in the last game. That would have been a bit simpler, and meant that I didn’t have to spend as many points in the core (since you had to take 6 core minimum for the 2 battalions).
The difficulty would have been choosing the two different factions and if it was TK and NS remembering which army the NS units were from ![]()
