King Braefart and his Wee Free Highlander Dwarfs

After finishing off the 2 troop units of Dwarf infantry, I figured it was time to treat myself and paint one of the hero choices. It was not difficult to pick which one to start on.

Sweet model to paint, but i’m not sure what to field her as… Neither Imperial or Free Dwarfs have a clarion/bard position to give Inspiration to her fellows or fear into the hearts of the greenskins across the battlefield.

I was decorating the base to finish my Piper, when the thought came to me… She looks like the sort of lass who would have a weelittle white lap dog who followed her everywhere, and tended to nip suitors who came too close…

A Stone Priest perhaps?

After searching all week i finally found my fine detail glasses, so i can do a final touch up now that i can see the details better

He does look nice and priesty, a scholarly stone priest, but someone has to write down what those rocks are up to.

thanks @:Wilberforcw waiting for rocks to move is a time honoured tradition amongst Dwarfs

More work ongoing. As i am awaiting a KoW game day next weekend, I’m a little under pressure to get my Dwarf army, (or rather , Dwarf Armies as they will be for KoW and Warhammer 6th edition) finished. So I bit the bullet and bought all three of the Oathmark Dwarf boxes. Although Google and Oathmark themselves have not put a lot of effort into promoting the Dwarfs at least enough to differentiate between them, i bought them on a chance. Therefore, on close examination, the three Dwarf boxes are very different: light infantry, infantry and heavy infantry. The light infantry wear no armour so would be ideal for archers or gun crews, but also came with an array of picks hammers and shovels . These would be ideal for miners, but the miners in WHF 6th ed. are armour 4+, however the box set of Infantry were in chainmail. So taking the weapons from the light infantry and using these with the chainmailed Infantry box, i have a regiment of Miners for WHF, or Shieldbreakers in KoW, and a regiment of archers/Quarrellers with the light infantry plus enough extra lads to work my 2 cannons. The Heavy infantry set make excellent Iron Guards/ Ironbreakers. While I was converting, i came across another revaluation. The Heavy infantry box came with an array of have weapons and shields and a lot of two handed axes too, so i converted the Dwarf Wars Makadon infantry that I’d recently switched arms with my other Dwarf Wars unit of imperials, i switched weapons again to make them into Berserkers/ Slayers.

The only downfall of the Oathmark Dwarf is the 25mm bases they all come on, instead of 20mmx20mm needed for both games. If I’d gone down the multi bases route i prefer, this wouldn’t have been a problem but to have my Dwarf army open to multiple game options, they needed the smaller bases. I’ve had to but some bases as I’ve run out, but hopefully they will arrive on Tuesday and ill have the rest painted by then and can focus on the last 30 dwarfs in the days leading up to battle day.

Do like the oathmark dwarfs (need to pick up the light ones).

The 2hw from the heavy kit are great - and ‘left handed’

Thanks @Sceleris . The 2 handed weapons are neat… And relatively easy to fix together too. I hadnt noticed the left handed bit

Easy-fit 2hw really shouldn’t be that hard to find - but really are with some manufacturers!

With the Slayers and Miners now done, I am now working on a regiment of 'Quarrellers ’ although they have bows instead, and a troop too, which are armed with Naiad harpoons and 2 sets of cannon crew. If I can get them finished by Thursday, I’ll have Friday to finish off the 30 heavy infantry before the Games day…

A duel purpose Dwarf Army which is challenging enough as it turns out, as many units are only available for one or the other game :KoW Free Dwarf army / Warhammer Fantasy 6th edition . I focused more on miniatures that I liked rather than for tactical advantage or compatibility. Still a work in progress, but certainlygettingthere. Currently waiting for the Army Painter light tone wash to dry so I can do some touch ups. Units still to finish: A troop of crossbow/ Quarrellers, berserker Army Standard bearer and 2 gun crews to finish off and 24 LOTR Dwarf Rangers I haven’t even started yet.

There is possibly another month’s work in touching up, and finishing other bits, including personalising the movement trays etc.

I want depth in the trays so thatthe models are secure, but still mulling over what that will entail.

I have finished off some Dwarf Hero choices
