Greetings! After a few years, I’ve started getting in some games of 3rd Edition. I like to write-up turn-by-turn battle reports after each game as it helps me learn about the rules and the armies as well as better evaluate my lists and decisions. Plus I just enjoy it. Below is a link to my main page, listing all my 3rd Edition Battles:
So I don’t spam the forum here, links to future battle reports will just be posted in the thread here as I go. Thanks and I hope you enjoy reading!
Great report! I agree on the formation–the character is nice, but I don’t think the bowmen do enough damage to be worth the points. Glad to hear it was a well-fought battle. We’re starting to build a nice little scene in Wisconsin.
It was a blast fighting against you! lots of twists and turns, and It helps to get games in to get better!
this is also helping veer me more towards the rhino cav… they are doing work in most games I play!
looking forward to the next post… even if I have to re-live the pain of how much the dice turned on me
great report as before! I fully admit I may need to learn how to play better, like not sacrificing my pheonix.
Also, hard to work around some luck. That seige artillery strike changed a lot, as did a very unlucky double ones for a key charge. But, I cannot say everything bad on my end was down to luck! probably took more chances than I needed, and the unit choice could be better. This game really made me reconsider the tyrants, just because of how squishy they are…
The Tyrants had some particularly back luck – in both games both their combats led to an Insane hold. They seem great for destroying a scary unit at the cost of themselves. Stick the Brew of Sharpness on them with some Ghekko screen support and they should be able to delete just about anything. I didn’t have any big hordes though, so the available trades for them were not great.
That’s a great point. I run more hordes, so the tyrants are able to take off an impact unit against me. But against your MMU approach, the tyrants are traded for a regiment of pikes or something? Just not too many juicy targets against an MMU army.
I was lucky enough to get in another game against a brand new army for me: the Nightstalkers. It was an introductory game at 1000 points, but still worth looking at I think. I definitely learned at lot!
Thanks @TastyBagel oh so i did. mea culpa. i’ll fix that now,
They are Victrix Early Imperial Roman Cavalry. You get 16 of them in the set, with 2 options of shield shapes : either oval or hexagonal (? sort of…i think.) 2 command heads (A Decurian and Optio and Praetorian heads 2 different standard bearers, 2 musicians with trumpets, swords and javalins, plus javalin cases and some other additional bits like water bottles, blanket rolls, Sadly, no decals in the kit, but they can be bought seperately for a nominal fee. In KoW terms there are enough for 2 regiments of cavalry on MMC. or a horde depending on which army you are using .
I am similarly ignorant of Nightstalkers, having never faced them, but your KoM army is quite similar to my Roman army so far, although no bows, javalins and Pilum instead .
No problem at all @Nav. Just wanted to make sure they got to the right spot to be properly appreciated! Those sculpts look great! I will need to keep an eye out for Victrix stuff in the future. Thanks for the tip!
My Game 2 of this tiny event was the Kingdoms of Men vs some Salamanders in Dominate, and you can follow the progress of the humans and their dino here.
One of the attendees had to leave after Game 2, so the third and final game for the tiny event was a 2v1 at 2000 pts, since one player had brought some extra stuff.
The Kingdoms of Men and the Abyssal Dwarfs from Game 1 now had to unite to fight a large contingent of Salamanders! And you can read about that battle here.
