Trident Realms in 3.0

I almost never take BC myself.

I do like elementals. I feel grind is the only valid TR build. I see You took 2x Kraken. Not a bad choice. I use GWE and CG instead but I do like krakens in Your shooty list. 4 naiad regiments!

You have 4 Heroes. This is quite a lot. But I guess You had spare points. Bastion is nice but a mage with veil and banner of Abbotshire might be a better choice to protect your shooters.

I usually just use three heroes, but had the points to put the DHE in, who’s just too good to turn down, especially with the unconditional inspire now on top of scoring and killing and chaffing and etc. I’d say four individuals is a lot, but the DHE is really more like a unit in my mind. Also, I’m so low on unit strength that I won’t be swapping the DHE out, however I dig putting both Stealthy and Spellward auras on a mage, that’s very cool

As for the titans, the models need to be the same thing, and while they could be double CG, part of the attraction of the army is the heavy regen, so I’ve gone with Kraken again (I run three at 2300). I’m curious to see how the rampage helps them in combat, however I’m keeping my expectations low

Finally, I’m excited to see how the quad piercers do in today’s meta. This army was built at the end of 2E, when Heartpiercers had 12 attaks and pathfinder and ensnare (but no steady aim), so I had intended them to be tarpits and flankers and so on. A lot of that functionality went away while their guns got a little better (I’d still rather have 12 w/ pathfinder than 10 w/ steady), but the best games are where they get to do objective work and roll crazy hot in combat.

Actually, the last thing I cut to fit in the Centurion’s trident was the fury aura on one Envoy. Mostly for the Placoderms but also secretly for the Heartpiercers …

I hear You. I also try to fit a DHE myself. I still can not decide about cutting Centurion. I will try to upgrade my Thuul troop to a 3rd regiment or give that troop helm of a drunken ram (15, 3+, TC2 attacks…). Then I might change him for a Mythican with Celestial restoration.

TR is a grind army. Heavy regen is always a great thing to have. I do have 3 kraken models myself  Rampage… I would keep expectations low myself as well.

I had that in my previous list before swapping for Eckter.
Barkskin on a swarm is hilarious fun and I also had an Ensnarer horde with Brew of Strength hiding in the woods.

Barkskin is a reverse heal. Very useful with thuul and DH in a list.

I also squeezed Celestial Restoration to keep elementals/CG etc. going.

Naiad horde is something I still have to paint…

Some pictures from today’s tournament. 14 players.

And here is my draft of my 1880 list for the one next month!

First Polish KoW league tournament behind me. 14 players. 3 games. 1995 points.

I have played Flying Basilean circus game 1, Herd game 2, NS game 3.

My post tournament conclusions:

  • GWE is a very good unit. I got few flanks/rears with this guy. I was using him before but now he is bonkers. Once I even regen 7/10 wounds in one go. One extra attack does not look like much but is a big deal especially when flanking.

  • WEs - they are solid as always. Resilient to chip shooting, with long charge range and unable to do a lot of damage. Lost both hordes game one to Elohi charging (Scorched and in terrain!)

  • Thuul formation - I really likes using thuul in 2.0. Infantry on a table just looks right. Hidden Ones are not broken. They are (also thanks to inspiring changes) a solid alternative/support for Depth Horrors. I plan to replace one WE horde with DH horde next time I play. 3rd regiment is also a solid option especially with Helm of a Drunken Ram. Perfect item for a 3rd thuul regiment.

  • Swarms - always good to have at least one.

  • Coral Giant - Finally CS3 with useful number of attacks. Mine was going extreme first few combats. Either 8+2 attacks or 8+12 attacks lol

  • Barkskin - I was casting in to CG, Thuul, Swarms and Mythicans. It was solid even on a CG. I was able to roll 1-3 successes which allowed my CG to take some hits he normalyly would not be able to.

  • Scorched Earth was ok but I will try to take both Barkskin and Celestial in one list. There was goblin shooting and LB on the field and a tool to re-gain few wounds is a good option.

  • There was something wrong with my opponents’ rolls. 20-30 attack units hitting on 5+ due to ensnare were hitting like 60% of their attacks whole day long…

Here is my list:

Thanks for the photos and the rundown! And for sharing your findings on the new stuff.

Army looks really great all together, props once again on all the Mantic.

Well… Swarms are not Mantic. And a knucker but I used a coupon I won to order Mantic Knucker and some more WEs. DHs are already on a way to my place. I will have to live with few non-Mantic frogs as I can not find a solid replacement.

Alright fine, props on the 85% Mantic

I am not sure if I get my Depth Horror models from Mantic on time (Brexit means it takes 8+ weeks to deliver anything to Europe from UK) so I will aim at 3x Thuul + either 2x WE or Gigas.

I did not use Gigas in a while. I am not really sure I like them. What do You think about them guys? Are they not a bit slow? WEs seems more flexible especially with surge.

Also… Treeleapers. There must be something with that unit as many players says “troops! only” and other says “only in regiments!” Did any of You use TL before?

Those are my 2 options for a next tournament ATM. Will test both of them.

Are we choosing between 2x Gigas or 2x Water Elementals? That’s honestly really tough :expressionless: I think WE are strictly better, but I also rode to victory on the shells of my 2x Gigas hordes many times (I used Chalice + Stone FWIW). Very consistent damage and hard to shift, tho I also never brought any healing for them, so they quite often did die after being worn down.

I’m personally going to give Gigas a break until the resin Mantic ones come out and I can build a fresh horde, but in the context of your two lists … I still don’t know! Is having a surgable element a positive or negative for you? That might help decide which list. Do you want your anvils to be slower or faster? Will all those Thuul leave the Gigas behind, or are they just fast enough to work with them?

Celestial Restauration synergizes better with the Gigas, so you could give them a try. Also you can look over them with Ej Periscope (what WE would not allow). You could consider giving one hast instead of Dwarven Ale to keep up with the rest.

It’s an interesting use for Mysticans to take them just as plain melee-Heroes. Please write us, how that works out. If I was your opponent and survived a multicharge from the Formation I would countercharge Ineesha and overrun to the regiment…

That is a common situation with Ineesha. Glass Shield helps but a spell would not be a bad idea.

Well… I like surge. Especially on a GWE that did not make a cut lol

Gigas have an adventage vs goblin engine spam. They are just as tall as goblins and can not be seen. And I do have 2 painted hordes I did not use for some time now.

Luckly Mantic wrote 2022 is a metal to resin year.

Naked Mythicans… I had no points for DHE.

While sirens don’t seem to have much love now, there are possibly other individuals these could get used as if looking for alternative model options?

I really like Mantic siren.

Had a game vs Dwarfs yesterday. Have used the 2x WE list. I must say that Celestial is great. I rolled 2 successes both times I casted it and healed 5 and 6 wounds in two turns of casting. Keeping a mage 12" away IS a problem but healing is great. Regular Heal (3) for 30 allows 0-3 wounds regain and CR costing 45 allows 0-9 and the average is way higher … And really. Who would take Siren anyway?

I think I missed GWE in my list. I could drop a horde and take it but I have no idea what to do with those 40 points I would have left…

EDIT
Came up with an idea! Haste on Riverguard regiment and Scorched Earth. GWE has more survability than a horde and I wanted that. Scorched earth will also help and SP8 flying regiment. This is almost-aa-good-as-tortured-souls lol

This arrived today! I was Charge extra VAT (…) but I can start working on my horde. Or even 2 regiments… Not sure if they are worth taking as regiments.

BTW
This is my 2000 MSU WIP list. I had a blast with Thuul/MSU in the end of 2.0 and it is great to play with too.

Horrors WIP. Those are rather big for a 40mm base do I will fit only 5 in a horde. Which is not a bad thing. They will fill a base well.

First 3 Horrors waiting for a regiment base.
