@MiSiO_1 it doesn’t get any less pleasant on the eye with familiarity. It’s still an awesome model. i have two of the Mantic giants myself, both with my own individual twists on them, and they are great models to work on with plenty of details to capture. The trick though, is not the details, as with other models. The trick is in the skin tones, the large blocks of colour, and capturing muscle tone and the light with the subtle shadowing and highlighting. Then there i the water on the base. a good base can add so much to a model, and again, the delicate play of colours in the water brings it to life and the proportions of beach to water etc. only increases the level of detail and realism in the piece. Bravo, i’m sure you are mighty proud of it, and rightly so.
@Bandrol so it looks like sea/swamp weeds? Uff…
@Nav I agree that skin is important. To get enough shades and highlings but not too much to make it it look unnatural. I was trying to keep it nautral. I did not shade every strap, every wood armour. I just focused more on a feel. It was my second big model ever after a Mishima Gigamek I did years back so I am happy how it came out. I guess it is because I knew what colours to use from start to finish. Purples with constrasting greens. And I highly recommend malefic vallejo set. Best set ever. I painted my Veer-myn with it. Now CG and I plan to use it on another DHE (I do from Frog Monster from Hellboy).
One of my giants is a blue Hrimm Frost Giant but for him and my other 4 armed giant I used an old post of Citadel light pink flesh tone dry brushing paint that has been around for ages but was really effective to lighten the skin tones on upraised parts of skin. It works well on furs too. It doesn’t pink the area, just lightens it
That is simply beautiful conversion and painting work Misio.
The colours pop off it. Jealous of your skill picking and executing colour.
The base adds so much as well. Hats off.
Oh sure. I suggest using colour wheel when planning colours. It helps a lot. As You said. Choosing right blocks of colours are more important than the execution.
Thanks! Your comments are very gerenous!
I try to Pick all colours before I start painting. There are several GREAT sets of paints from Vallejo.
My skin and hair are all from one set. I also used It to paint skin and cloths on my… Veer-myn.
Greens are just a complementary tones. Easy to choose with colour wheel.
Ordered several Mantic Depth Horror Eternals to build full Mantic horde.
Now I have to figure out colour scheme. It should be dark /pale as those are guys from deep… Maby I will use the same tones as for CG skin?
Perfect. I will use CG skin tone for this plus some redish/pinkish tones around mouth and web on his back and feet.
Rust on steel with complement the whole thing perfectly.
I can’t wait to see the final result
Plan for the next week.
Awesome and really looking forward to seeing the Depth Horrors with that scheme!
Is Kraken a good choice in game below 2000 points? I had a break from using Kraken but Rampage and Hidden Ones are a good reason to use it again (I have 3 models after all).
Tested my 1995 list with Centurion and I wonder what I could replace him with. He is solid and his trident is useful. I just feel this slot could do better. My problem is that replacing him with something else would save maby 40 points I can spend mostly on Items which will not improve my list greatly.
What is You typical hero choice?
BTW
This is my DHE work-in-progress.
Nice model.
My last list had Eckter, Mythican with Bane chant and formation and an Aquamage with Knowledgeable, Restoration 3, Icy Breath and the Lute. I find that we need BC and something like Eckter that can give our combats a little more damage to win the day.
DHE does notlook great on pictures. I hope to take a family picture when I finish a horde to go with those 2. From Mantic DHE models.
Restoration is something I am very tempted by. And BC too. I stick to Scorged earth and Barkskin atm. I do like Eckter but I find him a bit to slow for my taste. Krakenmaw is great on the other hand…
New tweaks to my 1995 list. What do You think? I have replaced thuul troop, WE horde and a centurion with thuul regiment, DH horde and a Mythican. Added Celestial Restoration too.

I’ve got a 2100 point tournament at the end of February, and I’m bringing my Trident with this guy at the helm, even tho it’s him or an aura Aquamage with a dope spell. I’m not sure the trident Centurion is the correct choice, but I love my model for him so that’s enough for me right now
Smart call on those minis for DHE (Hellboy, right?), paint looks great. Just read back, sounds like you’re using the Mantic DHEs as a unit?
Yes. Those are Giant Frog Monsters from Hellboy. I will use dedicated DHE models to build DH horde.
I have a centurion with RG shield and a… Trident converted some time ago and I do like it a lot too. I might take him but I still have one list to test.

First time I’ve ever taken TR without a source of bane chant, but I almost always use it on the Water Elementals, so decided to just boost them and avoid the chance of failing the lute roll. I also lost my nerve on taking Wyrmriders instead of the elementals I’ll experiment some day, but the elementals have been amazing for me all the time and the wyrms failed me a lot in early 3E - yes, they’re improved but still
Placo regiments are new to me here too, replacing the Gigas I leaned on in the past. I know they won’t lift like the Gigas did but I’m hoping they can hold, do scenario work, etc.
