One unit you didn’t mention, that is also effected by Ineesh is the Kraken. I love the unit and never make a list without it. Planning to run a list with the Hidden Ones screened by 2 Kraken. The idea is to combine punchy and grindy units to endure a time in the main battle line. I’m looking forward to try it out.
Your list looks pretty solid. Please let us know how it fares in the tournament.
True. But I feel Kraken is not getting much better with TC1… It can help but It is not essential. I myself have 3 krakens. Mantic did na amazing job with that model.
I agree about units placement. Thst is why I took CG and GWE. I will try Kraken as well. His Rampage(1-3) is nice bonus too!
Thing is Thuul are already very good vs infantry. That is why I added CG. CS(3) and Brutal + 2D6+8 attacks vs Kartę Infantry+ is nasty.
Regarding the Kraken I disagree. TC 1 will help a lot, because we are struggling against high def units. At the moment the CG is the only one you can send against a Golem horde. Even against def 5 a crushing value of 3 is a good bet. (Don’t get me wrong. I think the CG is a very good choice. I just want to state the Kraken can fill a direly needed role with that TC1)
Something else coming to my mind while studying your list… what happens if someone casts host shadowbeast on Kyroqsh? Will the effect be doubled as well?
My problem wih TC1 Kraken is that this is a one turn bonus. 12, 4+ attacks. One turn to do damage. I would say he is an alternative. More grindy in CC but less offensive. Brutal is also great on CG.
My experience with trying to use the Kraken as hammers is that, well, they aren’t hammers. Kraken are great fast anvils, but it leaves the Trident wanting for something that can actually hit - I’m going to once again try to make Wyrmriders play that role, which I’m hopeful the buffs will help with, tho they’re no Nature Wyrmriders Happy to see the CG buffs, good justification for me finally finishing my mini for him
That said, the place Kraken can do work is zipping into a flank, which is also where that TC is going to be the tastiest. Kraken are opportunistic predators, and the TC is nice for that. The rampage is appreciated as well, it reminds me of when I started playing Trident late 2E and they had 15 attaks base and felt like they could do a little more lifting.
Second test game behind me. List works well. New rules allowsan easier inspiring. Only Ineesha and thuul are “battle group dependent” which csnnbe a bit frustrating at times.
Really great giant, and props on keeping it 100% Mantic down to the tentacles
Coincidentally, I’m starting to cycle back to my own TR after a year of Herd, and spent some time last night rebasing some stuff. Changed my Gigas into Placoderms (the models were always a little too small, despite being in scale with my other infantry, downside of people using way too big of Gigas all the time), moving my ‘Water Elementals horde’ back to the Wyrmrider base I wanted it on originally, and finally basing my Centurion. Very excited about his disorder shot, tho I’m not convinced it’s good for how expensive it is? Also printed a couple options for an Aquamage, a unit I never considered before (because conditional inspiring) but really dig the aura on, as well as access to the new spells.
I haven’t played my crabs since Feb 2020, so am excited to return Summer 2022
@Boss_Salvage
You use Mantic gigas? They fit 50mm bases perfectly.
I think it is not THAT expensive. Centurion is on Eckter’s lvl. Has fewer shots but on 3+ and P1! He is def 5, ensnare, Mighty, regen 4+… I plan using him with boots to more 12" and shoot 12".
This is my first draft of a 2300 list expanded from 1995 I use ATM.
The Hidden Ones [1] (Formation) 0
Thuul (F) (Regiment) 170, Staying Stone 5
Thuul (F) (Regiment) 170
The models I was using for Gigas aren’t Mantic, so big shrug. I was more talking about height - it’s very relevant that Gigas are H2, the models I always see are H3-4. But you know, I am in the market for new Gigas, and my army theme is crab-centric, and Mantic does make crab-tastic fighty crabs
If You guy them then we might get resin version soon lol
I had to varnish my CG as he is a bit heavy and I kept damaging my paintjob. You might do the same with gigas. They are great but heavy. I have 2 hordes. And It was fun to paint and they look great!
Tidal Swarm for sure. I wasn’t quite ok with the idea people had of putting Barkskin on them but wow under the right circumstances its fantastic. The swarms are honestly an A- grade unit for Trident Realm.
Yes. I think it is a good choice in an objective based scenarios.
But there is also few more options IF I drop Boots from Centurion. I wonder if I really need extra something to make his trident work. Ej Periscope (5) could be great item on him. H3 to shoot infantry mages hidden behind enemy lines?
I also consider Mythican with BC/Glass Shield OR DHE. I do have them built from Mantic From Monsters and I really like the idea of having at least one.
This was my thought as well, but I ended up dropping it because 12" is really short once you factor having a unit in the way. I hadn’t thought about shooting over enemy units though, just my own
Not a TR player but enjoyed this army review - interesting analysis, also useful on some of the units that are in FoN.
I wonder if we see Treeleapers less as they don’t fit into people’s idea of the armies they’re in. Added to that they’re relatively expensive in £/$s per troop, and there aren’t obvious alternative miniatures.
@MarkG I started working on a Treeleaper regiment today. Their fly and SP 7 is very useful. I always get a flank with a troop. 20 CS1 attacks with pathfinder is nothing to ignore. ALSO TR has problem with unlock which was not mentioned in the review.
If You do not use DHs cheapest, wirth taking unlock is a 160 point unit. That is why a TL regiment is a good option. With +4 nerve and 20% more attacks it can really mess with enemy. 7" move with 2 pivots. Great.
Great idea, great execution. Painting the fur as sea weeds is just genius
As above mentioned, the base is looking awesome. The ripples of his foot look so natural. Great work
