Trident Realms in 3.0

Sentiel changes a lot. That is true.

There are several range elements we could use. Naiads, Kyroqsh, Eckter, Stalker, arbalest…

The RC has to be very aware of the meta warping caused by the flying large cav regiments (Soulflayers, Scorchwings, Frostclaws / Stoneclaws, Treeleapers), and we’ve seen them gradually nerfed or released with appropriately higher costs. Treeleapers feel like the full swing of the pendulum, with both stat nerfs (I will never understand the De 3+) and a high cost. They do have a really good shooting attak with possibly better support than the other 4 (full vicious aura), but I think they’ve still suffered from their meta siblings’ crimes.

That said, spamming them, like spamming the other ones, overrides their weakness. The enemy, which never has that much shooting, can’t shoot off all those De 3+ low Nv toads, and all those toads have guns that can remove enemy tools pretty effectively. So I agree, I think yet again we’re being pushed to spam a shooting flying large cav regiment if the goal is raw performance :face_with_diagonal_mouth:

I’d still like to make an all Mantic, all amphibian army … but it feels really weak when you limit how many Treeleapers you take (three for me), with everybody else hitting on 4+ in combat, except for your one sharp Dambuster horde :stuck_out_tongue:

I agree we have flying crisis BUT Stoneclaws and Frostclaws were released “nerfed” already.

Treeleapers feels like in the same category but… In regiments only AND speed 8 only.

Good stuff.

How did the Leviathan Banes pan out for you - and did you tend to deploy them relatively near each other and look to use as a way of shutting down a firing corridor or similar?

They were great. P3 is a big deal.

I liked to field them together but there were games where I did split them. But being able to shoot 6 Dice into one target is very effective. Eckter was also helpful. Pushing siegebreakers back to get LBs shoot the flank etc. When I did split them i went for 2+1. One supporting heartpiercers and 2 hunting Titans (to talk to get cover).

In generał they were very effective. Even hitting on 5-. Sure there were turns when I was missing a lot but also 5 hits per volley dealing a ton of damage.

Harpoon helped few times too. Not a key rule but I was able to pull a table hordę turn one 3" and then blast IT with heartpiercers and Eckter to another 8+ damage turn 1.

Banes were killing vampires and wights and damaging and killing dragons(did 12 hits one volley to ratkin dragon). Killing giants etc. I think I remove arbalest and upgrade Riverguard to treeleapers for some morę flexible shooting.

BTW
I always liked Trident King but he was terrible in terrain. Now charging into terrain is fun. Cs1 and TC1 in terrain is great. One of my favorite unit.

Also LBs os one of few answers to high def. Coral Giants, Dambusters and LBs are what we have in our toolbox.

Cheers.

Think when looking at the army list originally missed the +1 piercing upgrade (which looks like an auto take) and turns them into something that can really hurt with good dice.

Yes. There were other balista in other armies. Eleven for example (2). Elite is great but also extra piercing is. Balista are a valid option.

People were afraid to Ignore them and I have faced high def of 6 on my games against ogres, goblins, AD so 50% of time. And def 5+ on all games.

KoM one is 10pts less, one nerve less, doesn’t have Harpoon (which as optional moving is great) and can’t get P3!

Eleven is 80, gives spellward and is elite so the cost feels right. 70pts for no harpoon (which is a gimmick anyway) is fair. Less nerve is for KoM - this is wierd but this is a hordę army and Has no extra rules sobotę also feels right.

I like to think about 3 banes as a 240 point unit that does 5-6 wounds a turn. With a potential for a nice swing. Which is not a bad price when You care about damage output with other expensive units. SURE You do not get US but it also means You do not have to move then, engage into enemy etc. This is when the rest of the army comes in.

Great work with a pretty unassuming list! Bolt thrower spam barely registers as such with people just starting to wake up to the power of the bolter :bow_and_arrow:

Always one step ahead lol

My thinking is this. Trident has no hammers so I decided not to mimik any. Went for medium range shooting on… Everything+ some Control elements (you should have seen AD’s face when I windblasted his decimators 8" back).

Morę than average drops, chipping damage list.

Love it, and fair point on the hammers. I’m unfortunately still trying to make wyrmriders work in my otherwise shooting + control list :disappointed_relieved:

I can see WR’s replacing ensnares. King would support them well.

I really think You need Kraken upgrade if You are taking 2 Kraken! I like Aquamage with barskin and aura to support kraken too.

I tend to avoid upgrading a single of my identical monsters or units … but you know, the upgrade is really good and one of my Kraken has a crown-like thing going on so you’re totally right. Works on the Eternals too!
