Looking at the shooting options

With javelins:

The other main choice in TR:

Boomers are a good comparison:

I think you’d really have to be getting your points out of Flying and Pathinder to go with the Riverguard.

Boomer regiments have more attacks, nerve and crushing. Is the Riverguard loss of CS1 factored into their points cost - who knows?

I’d rather take the Heartpiercers for the extra range and the lower points cost.

Fly and feint can be very strong if played well, especially fly now you have two pivots. A shooting unit can move somewhere unchargeable and shoot, whilst also opening a flank to charge into next turn if the opponent doesn’t react to it.

I was wondering about the -CS1 thing myself. If CS1 is valued at 10-15 pts for a 15 attack m4 unit with fly (the magic formula values things like CS higher or lower based on a unit’s ability to utilize it such as more attacks, me3, high speed etc.) then the increased cost to the unit to give them a 12” shooting attack is more like 70-75 pts which feels mental. Without looking through the other armies the only other unit that comes close to that penalty are the Lionsnarl cav that lose TC2 to gain shooting attacks.

Even losing TC1 for shooting attacks is pricy!

Hadn’t looked at that profile before; makes Silverbreeze look even worse of a deal to be paying 70 pts for +1spd, elite, and +1 nerve.

Not the biggest deal, as I don’t think many forces will take one and those that do will try not to move it, but should Leviathan’s Bane have Sp 6?

I suspect it’s Sp 5 was just copied across from 3rd rather than being a design choice to have it a point slower than Naiads.

An Elven Bolt Thrower is speed 6, a Ratkin Shredder is Speed 5. So maybe there is no clear system for it?

For simplicity’s sake, I’d reduce the number of different movement values in lists without good reason.

My suspicion on this occasion is that it was overlooked (fortunately not significant).

AD infantry and most of the war engines are sp4, but give a couple of them a flamethrower and they speed up to 5!

This seems to be conscious decision, as all mobile warmachines with short range got at least speed 5.

Any arguments in favour of regiments or troops?
