Trident Realms in 4th

Looking at the models which consist of the body and a head only, it is about time for them to be part of the vault.

When I click on the green download button, nothing happens.

About a month ago we looked at this and I could buy them from Big Jim in Bristol for, I think, ÂŁ45.

This can’t be something Mantic would want to encourage - even with them dropping PMC - as people might do the same with other units.

I also think those low model count regiments look sparse and a bit forlorn, especially when it’s the little guys.

I reckon if Thuul had a plastic kit they’d be in Core, and Depth Horrors or Placoderms would be in Specialist. Mantic is inviting you to overlook them atm.

Mantic are rejigging the vault to get everything on PoD - even subscribers can’t buy anything outside of the last two months.

This is all true, and I totally get why the thuul are priced how they are (mantic probably not making much money selling them anyway!), and I get why they’re in this situation. However, as new players to kow like mark join the fun, it’s interesting to see how these issues are noticed.

When I started with mantic I was frustrated that I couldn’t (for instance) buy a mammoth when that unit is in the list. Again, I now get why, but these things (non available units, expensive to buy units) can be pretty off putting to new players, even if they have good reason.

My son has the new xirkaali and there is a specialist yan unit that doesn’t have official models (Yan warrior monks, the ones with ensnare). If you look in the shop you won’t find these, and this is a new release! Now, I know you can use regular yan and either kitbash or proxy, and actually this is what you are meant to do, but for a brand new player this is confusing. It would be great if they returned to linking to the shop for each unit, and made sure each unit in the shop had a full description of what it can represent in the game.

With thuul, maybe someone loves the unit, really wants to use them. For a new player they are searching and finding that the option is £55 for one unit. Hopefully, print on demand can help, but this is currently the type of “feels bad” that should be avoided. Could they sell it with a couple more in but multi based as a regiment? Or maybe make sure people know that getting the STL and getting a shop to print may be cheaper (if it is!).

As someone that’s played mantic stuff for a while and goes in these forums it’s pretty much a non-issue for me personally, as I know the various ways to do this cheaper (e.g. vault, proxy, second hand etc), but new to KoW players (and more seasoned ones too really) shouldn’t have to put in lots of effort to give mantic an appropriate amount of money for a regiment of a unit within their IP.

All just, like, my opinion man!

people are doing that with all units since the very beginning, and even Mantic is going into this by selling Regiments with less models per box because it was easier to make the models that way

Like the new Xirkaali Cavalry are sold as 3 (large) models instead of 6 for a regiment, the Infantry is 8 (large) models instead of 20 per Regiment
Making a 10 model Thuul Regiment wouldn’t be something special by now and with that price something people would do anyway

The Cavalry could have been chariots and the Xiirkali could just become Large Infantry, like their two special types.

But they started already earlier. Look at the ravens - just 2 miniatures. Or the Twilight Kin - 16 thin and skinny models for 20.

And Nightstalker Phantoms originally had 10 miniatures in their box, but the amount got reduced.

A base should look full, and like there are ranks and files (it’s a mass-battle game after all), but it’s the footprint of the unit that defines what it is in game terms, not the number of models.

Are people taking a ‘cavalry’ option when playing TR?

Wyrmriders with the brew of strength or Dambusters with sharpness look like the hitiest options.
