December Dream! - painting topic

Finally base coated that Dragon and - coincidentially, like @MechaSturgeon said quite a while ago - “am now determined to paint the damn thing!” :joy:

It’s gonna be a bit of an experiment. Texture on this mini is way different (and smother) than what I’m used to with Mantic or Reaper models. So I’m not sure if I’ll like the end result, but be that as it may, I’ll give it a good try and hope for the best

It lends itself well to try out some blending/glazing on all the smooth textures. Good luck!

Nearly finished my first regiment of Skorneforged Legionaries. I must say, what a terrible choice of models for a speed project. So many details and lots of brushwork.

Very nice @Findol, sometimes models turn out to have more detail once you get stuck in, such as the 24 Roman Imperial Auxillery archers i am almost finished now, which on opening up turned out to be 2 completely different types: 12 Western and 12 Eastern Roman archers. Although that in itself isn’t insurmountable, painting 12 at a time seems to be slightly too many for a good speed painting. (I nearly put speed dating there!) 10, or 8 would be a good number.

Those are my kind of dwarfs @Cartwright I cringe whenever i see the Mantic saucepan headed variety . Lovely paint job too.

@ClosetPainter , you may be correct there. Certainly, in Dungeons & Dragons terms, they would have been Lawful Evil, which are the worse as it is calculated; premeditated. In KoW terms, they would don the Vargurar mantle easily.

I’m not sure what those bag pipe thingies are @Findol but they all look cool

I never thought about that , their back flags totally look like bagpipes! #cantunsee .
I didn’t realize how prominent they looked until I took the off-center shot and you could see all 18 moon icons at once🤪
They’re a small homage to the Shadowmoon Tribe from Warcraft 2.

My latest Work in Progress, nearly done now,:- Two Imperial Roman Auxiliary Bowmen (KoW troop units for KoM) plus 2 extra as they come in 2 units of 12 each East and West.

  • West first, in my standard Auxillery blue.

And then Eastern Archers, I decided to experiment with my new purple paint from Scalecolour Artist which i was told worked very well in a wet pallet, only one way to find out…

Taking a slight break from painting Armada and indulging a friends interest in Deadzone.

Sadly camera just not wanting to work with me and not picking up the highlights, trying a new way to mass paint units in white also magnetized the right arm for option to go Doom pattern. Inspired by something from Sonic Sledgehammer on youtube. Think my base color is just too bright to start off with.

Love those Syrian archers from Victrix. Such a clear inspiration for warhammer fantasy elves and the like!

Beginning of my dwarf faction for vanguard. I actually really like the old mantic dwarves, though i appreciate they can be quite marmite!
