Rules Questions for Alessio

Use this thread to post rules questions. I’ll gather them up regularly and pass them onto Alessio to comment and answers. I’ll post those back here and also the frequent ones into an official FAQ.

Non-rules questions should go in another thread somewhere please.

What is the official base size to be used for titans. Is it the 50x50mm base now despite the fact that one may still use the “obsolete legacy“ bases.

The wording and figure for multiple charge in the bottom part of page 20 indicate that one can declare charge with all four units, tries to move them in, then realizes that one of them does not fit and cannot complete the charge, so the remaining unit is given a different order afterwards. It may happen that two units A and B declare charge against the same facing of the opponent unit and unit A stands in front of unit B. Since both units declared the charge, the unit B can go first and move through unit A (thanks to the wording in the colored box in the upper part of the same page). Now, it is realized that the unit A will not manage to fit in, so it will be given a different order. In effect, the unit B was allowed to pass through unit A despite the unit A was not able to complete the charge move. I do not think this is intended to be so …

post redacted for not being on topic enough

75mm - it says that on page 9, top right.

Many thanks for a prompt answer. Then I do not get the meaning of page 85 where this type of the base size is called obsolete. The same question may be asked about heavy infantry. The page 85 clearly indicates that these types and sizes of bases are to be abandoned (not supported) and people can keep their units on them just for legacy reasons. If I make a unit of heavy infantry on a scenic base, should I use a base that is obsolete? It is just confusing in terms of what one should use without a need to rebase in a few years.

At any point in the Movement Phase, each Commander can attempt to issue one Command Order.

I can read this as “I can do a command while in the middle of any units move order. When I do a command order, I have to do all the command orders”.

Is this correct?

What qualifies as a “rules” question? Are we talking core rules, advanced rules, army rules?

Im going to assume this is limited to the core and advanced rules and not to lists. Heres what ive got thats relevant

Question 1: answered and cleared

Question 2: Wavering and fearless: If a unit with the fearless special rule withdraws from combat and has to pass through a friendly unit, is it wavered?

Question 3: answered and cleared

Question 4 (multipart): Wild Charge with random variables and Loot tokens (Pages 47 and 68).

Wild charge states that you must issue a charge first, then roll the dice to determine if you make it. But loot tokens state that you may roll to determine the value of the wild charge, but may not make use of it until you drop the token.

(page 18) states that a unit must be within double your speed distance to declare a charge. Wild charge on its own creates a new term “charge range”.

Is a unit’s charge range Speedx2+ potential wild charge?

Does this mean a unit with a loot token counts its speed as 5 x2 when attempting a random wild charge role?

Is the goal for it to be actual speedx2 + wild charge?

Question 5: Objective tokens: (Page 68) Objective token rules state that you check who controls them “at the end of the game” but multiple scenarios (Raze, Protect and Raze, Portal of Peril) make reference to controling objective tokens over the course of a game. Is the intent for objectives to be controlable at any point during a game?

Will add more as I filter through them.

If a unit with Crystal Pendant of Retribution fails the Withdraw nerve test and is routed, do the enemy units in contact suffer the hits?

And who is rolling for them, as the rule text is not offering this reason for a a unit to get routed? It’s the same text like the two editions(?) before.

Can La’theal target herself with her own Crone Leech ability? (Units were within X” of themselves before.)

Is either Rampage or Slayer giving extra attacks if fighting Monstrous Infantry? Unlike Heavy Infantry they’re not mentioned in one of the both rules.

I’m a bit confused with how regen interacts with the withdraw order. Regen says to roll it before you resolve the move order. But theres no definition as to when the order is resolved. For other orders it doesn’t matter, but for the withdraw order, is the order resolved before or after you roll the nerve check?

Can a shambling unit affected by the Salamander command Will of the Ancients be surged into combat?

The wording of command seems to indicate the unit just can’t declare a charge in the movement phase but it’s worded as “Charge” (with a capital C) in stead of “Charge!”.

Does the Basilean command order ‘For the Glory of the Hegemon’ apply to heavy infantry when there are none in the list? Should it read ‘Large Infantry’?

Issuing Command Order (p63)

Does “At any point in the Movement Phase” imply that you can issue an order any time during a Movement Order or any time before, between, and after the different Orders on different units.
Currently there is no part in the rules saying that you need to finish an “Action” before you can make a different one (and in the core rules this isn’t necessary) therefore as by the rules a Commander can interrupt their own movement to issue a Command Order and continue it afterwards as can a unit receive a Command Order passing by the Commander during its own movement.

I want to follow up on this one with some additional clarification

At any point in the Movement Phase, each Commander can attempt to issue one Command Order per Turn on any friendly non-Commander unit within 12” of that Commander

Does this mean that at a single moment in the movment phase all commanders must use their command orders or that each individual commander may seperately chose when to issue their orders in the phase?

When a unit routs all enemy units engaged with it except a yielding individual, is it counted as having routed all enemy units and can do a post-combat order?

as yielding individual can be ignored when moving and shooting (even if Engaged with it), so is a post-combat order considered moving and therefore can ignore the yielding invidivdual?

An example would be I’m charged by a goblin rabble horde in front and flaggit on the side. I ikilled the rabble horde, but not the flaggit. Do I get my post-combat order or did the flaggit successfully pin me?

adding on to my above question,

another player interpreted the yielding rules as:
Both friendly and enemy units can always choose to ignore this unit, just as if it was not there, when

  • moving and
  • shooting (even if Engaged with it).
The portion of (even if Engaged with it) qualifier only referring to the shooting portion. Based on this interpretation, that means if a unit is engaged with a yielding individual, is still considered engaged, means it cannot move or charge away freely, and must halt, reform, or withdraw.

Would like to see clarification on this interpretation, and whether ultimately a unit may ignore a yielding individual when moving, even when engaged with it.

Page 85 There is no defined base footprint for heavy infantry troops and hordes. There is no defined base footprint for monstrous infantry troop. I know what it was., But a brand new player will not since it’s nowhere in the book or application.
