Trident Realms in 3.0

I like it! It’s going to be a hassle to keep things inspired, and I wonder if the specific types of inspiring will restrict your deployment too much, but I think the elements work.

I really like the blade of slashing on the Gigas, personally. You’ve got quite a beefy line already, and with CS2 and vicious that reroll is pretty valuable.

It always restrict my deployment but it is flexible enough. I would say the options in TR department are limited in general. I do not want Eckter in EVERY game (I just do not like him that much) which leaves me with Envoys (I like weakness more than I like BC but Bastion can be an option) and… Wyrmrider centurions? Most of those heroes are not useful outside inspiring. And I like my units to give me options not to limit them. I could give Siren Inspiring Talisman if I had points left too.

I have few groups in general.

  • WEs, GWE and Aquamage go together
  • Gigas, HPs go together with King within 9" but there are situations where I can leave them uninspired
  • Dambuster sentinel frees King from babysitting Treeleapers.
  • Dambusters are not within inspiring range due to their role.

Gigas and slashing - I like it. Will give it a try!

Hey! Been lurking in this thread. New to the game. Thanks for all the info! Saw you rated placoderms favorable but are not in recent lists. Do they have a place?

They might be an option but they are slow so it would be hard to use them as flank protection. They also lost a point of nerve (troops) but a list with them and Gigas and some Bastion could work.

Oh that does sound neat thanks for the input. I know the depth horrors got nerfed a bit so I was wondering if that’s a cool option. I like the idea of a large bulky fishman army. Still don’t really know much about the game so I’m piecing it all together.

DH are fine. They were fine before. Just do not take the whole list of them. They are a cool option vs impetus units with high CS/TC. DH have like no armour so they do not care. The whole protection comes from ensnare (and some terrain maby). -1 or even -2 to hit is the best answer vs such units. Fury makes them “fearless” in cc and 6ish hits is not even close to break them so… They are still an option.

If You have a list we could talk about it. There are no “go to” lists in TR so no worries. I will not show You the only good way of playing.

You’ll find a lot of variety in Trident Realm lists - fairly often I’ll look at a winning list from a tournament somewhere and think to myself “how the hell does THAT work.” A great TR player in the pacific northwest ran a list that was 3-4 regiments of Placoderms backed up by Aquamages with Icy Breath, Weakness, and NO surge. It blew me away, but once I saw it in action it made sense.

TR is full of very weird tools. Experiment with them, see what works for you, and iterate from that.

I’ve been noticing KoW is largely play what style you want no matter the army. Do you know the exact list?

I think I will skip Surge in a WE list myself in a future…

Experimenting is great in TR. I think of an idea and build models for it. Like I did with dambusters. And what I plan to do with more Treeleapers. And placoderm (I have a regiment ready to be painted, converted from Naiads which I love).

@galiman Thing is You can build around this core by adding several different units. Defensive, with faster flank etc.

No, I can’t find it, sorry. Lots of Placoderms, Weakness to help keep them alive, I think a couple Knuckers, definitely a horde of Wyrmriders with brew of strength. It was the highest scoring Trident Realm player from masters this year, if you can find those lists.

I collect pictures of great lists and armies:

BTW My wyrmrider centurion is from a regular WR but the resin one is so… Tempting.

Best combo in this list are Depth Horror Eternals (this is chaff I like!) combined with Placoderms. Chaff, CS2 punch. Love it.

There it is! Funny story, the army got horribly broken on the flight, so poor Tony had to stay up all night gluing it back together!

Placos converted from Naiads?
Oh please do share!

Took a King and a GWE from my 1995 point list and replaced them with Wyrmriders with BotoK and a WR Centurion.

Tested it against my friend and his dwarf army. This is the raport. EEs are tough but I had some BAD rolls against them 2 turns in a raw and was unable to finish one of them (with 8+ wounds on them already!) Flanking Centurion did like 1 damage etc. Still a great game.

Missed one obstacle behind the church in the middle which resulted in Treeleapers’ loosing a turn trying to get behind it. Also lost 2 knuckers to counter charges. Brocks did stupid amount of wounds. Should do like 4ish, did like 9-10 and killed the which messed my flank a bit but I was controlling the middle most of the time except for gigas. It was not their best game.

Wow, those pikes must be awful to transport. Absolutely no doubt about phalanx though, that’s for sure!

I use a https://miniaturesartteam.com/store/index.php? miniature case and I have zero problems with transporting any of my models.

What are the thoughts on the new Assassin/Inspiring Hero? Seems a little redundant with his inspire being on our other thuul heros?

I do not like him. Hile can groind a dragon. But it os a suicidal mission Die to his stats. Riverguard sentinel with scout is a better option to hunt casters as he can fly. And had pathfinder.
