Trident Realms in 4th

Discontinued on the website??

Were metal - and mantic are stopping that material. They are in the vault

No, Resin.

Mine are very old but Resin.

I wonder if that’s why they ended up in Specialist?

A couple of unconnected thoughts:

I’d like to take a couple of bolt throwers but I’ll never fit them in Support.

An amphibian character with an ability that works on the Amphibian trait would be great - not because the list is weak but the trait seems redundant atm.

One of the orders has ā€œocean spawn or amphibianā€, I’m guessing that they didn’t want things that are clearly not amphibians being ocean spawn and vice versa but wanted the rule to apply to both.

Seems like thin gruel - I’d like an interesting frog buff.

I agree

When do people take troops of anything in Trident Realms?

I’m thinking maybe heartpiercers or thuul?

I wonder if the amphibians get some love in the revamped FoN - in place of naiads & Salamanders?

I have no info but I doubt it. Doesn’t quite feel right to me, but maybe that’s because I want to see some plastic centaurs and maybe some fauns and other herdy stuff to go with the elementals and druids.

I mainly want FoN to continue being an army my daughter can love! To be fair, she’d love frogs, so whilst writing this I have changed my mind and now back amphibians for FoN!

I reckon that’d be a good move from Mantic as they face stiff competition in the TR list. It’s very easy to build an army without the amphibian wing and go all ocean. Plus, in my mind at least, they’re a better fit with Nature - hopping about in the canopy.

I need to finish the invasion book and stand at callenspire. Where I have got to so far there is disgruntlement between river and sea elements but it’s shaping up to get better. With TR being a new full list I doubt mantic will move river guard etc across to FoN too, but one can always proxy them as tribal warriors or whatever FoN end up with.

I was always interested in making an amphibian army for KOW, which obviously became more interesting when we got a few more toads late last edition. I think it was either a mediocre combined arms force or potentially bent shooting one depending on how you built it, but it wasn’t until just now that I gave it a shot in the new edition …

Oops! All Amphibians 4E [2000 / 2000]

Pond Warden (Hero (Lrg Cav)) 1 [195]
Riverguard Sentinel [2] (Hero (Inf)) 1 [150]
Riverguard Sentinel [2] (Hero (Inf)) 1 [150]
Riverguard (Inf) Regiment [155]
Riverguard (Inf) Regiment [155]
Riverguard (Inf) Regiment [155]
Riverguard (Inf) Regiment [155]
Riverguard Dambusters (Lrg Cav) Regiment [250]
– Blessing of the Gods [25]
Riverguard Dambusters (Lrg Cav) Regiment [250]
– Chant of Hate [25]
Treeleaper Dambusters (Lrg Cav) Troop [185]
Riverguard Arbalest [2] (Mon) 1 [100]
Riverguard Arbalest [2] (Mon) 1 [100]

I think that’s the best I can do? And with the exception of the Arbalests, which I think are genuinely good, it all kinda feels worse. No ensnaring troops (but at least with Nv 16+ you might pull off a Feint!). no vicious aura on the Sentinels, no insane number of shots on the Treebusters  That said, it does look like a fun list to play! Pondwarden is a strong warlord, shooting is still meaningful and punchy even without skewing into it, Riverbusters are scary enough as hammers. And being global Sp 7 fly is a neat thing, with strider where it matters. So color me tempted again :frog:

I was, however, genuinely surprised that there was no Amphibian related slot changes or buffs provided by the heroes. I’m not sure what that would be - maybe Treebusters to special? to alleviate the support pain - but still disappointing.

EDIT: Or is the Toad Sentinel just better than the Frog Sentinel? You get a whole lot for +15 points, no shooting and a slightly bigger base. It would cost my 2k list the symmetry of the Riverbuster artifacts but might be the value move …

Shooty frogs are looking pretty good as troops:

But I get your drift that special troops unlock as well, and +30 points gets you a core unlock with frogs, but it’s also kind of a mediocre regiment compared to others

Frogs seem to be one of the rare cases where ā€˜Feint ā€˜ is actually useful. Most other units (light Cavalry with shooting) aren’t supposed to see any combat and are lost, but frogs could probably use it for the better.

I would definitely go for the Dambusters Sentinels for the extra punch on a flying piece.

I tried to make up a Frog list but at 2k it’s very tricky to fit everything in - there are no cheap frogs. Hitting the army requirements is very tight, as is fitting in sources of Inspiring.

I would probably give the Riverguard infantry javelins, as Sh4+ with Piercing & Feint seems like an interesting option.

Full Amphibian battalion at 2300pts - still had to go MSU with the Dambusters.

No room for the second Dambuster Sentinel or any items either.

Would be quite funny to turn up with 100+ frogs and start hopping about the battlefield.

I’ve no idea if it’d be any good? You could get your shots but units could still charge for the kill. You’d hope to be able to get more than your fair share of flanks in too.

List that won a US GT recently.

Battalion 1

Eckter, Aquamage with AC, 4 reg riverguard with javelins, 2 bolt throwrs.

Battalion 2

2 Aquamage (staff of command & bloodboil; blizzard), 4 reg riverguard with javelins, 2 bolt throwers
